Goodnight Mister and Misses America...

Oh, this is a peach. This is a downright plum, this is. Another bit of radio drama delight, from "Barry Craig, Confidential Investigator"...
The set up: A detective goes to investigate a shady gambler in connection to a disappearance of a friend.
The pitch: As is to be expected, the detective is knocked unconscious in short order.
The peach: The detective awakens on a dice table, at the mercy of the gambler. The gambler notes the time, and tells someone to go collect their winnings.

They had a pool going on when he would wake up.

Oh, so awesome.

Oh, hm, ah. Have been reading "Wizard" by John Varley, and although I thought I hadn't read it before, it's ringing some bells... couldn't tell you how it ended, but the woman needed to fertilize the eggs of centaurs definitely rang a bell...

Oogh. Hit the wine a little too hard tonight... here's hoping I didn't tell too many jokes as well... hard to tell at this point...

hiccup...

hiccough...

hiccup...

Ooh, wow. The sea's so rough, and the ship is seesawing so much, it actually woke me up during the night.

Finished 'Wizard', 'Watchstar', the Doc Savage pulp 'Brand of the Werewolf', the John Carter of Mars story 'Synthetic Men of Mars'... need to exercise and draw more... although, I am looking damn good. I don't know if I'd say the fish and vegetable diet really -agrees- with me, but it certainly has been kind to me.

...

Okay, so, back in the day, there was a radio detective series called "Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator" starring William Gargan as the title detective. So help me, everytime they mention his name in the credits, I think to myself "For TORTURE!"... for, you see, there was a science fiction B-movie called "Teenagers from Outer Space" which had that classic line and a giant lobster called... the gargan.

I assume we are all familiar with the question raised by Machiavelli, "Is it better to be loved than feared, or the reverse?"

However, I offer this tidbit of his that you might not be so familiar with:
"I hold strongly to this: that it is better to be impetuous than circumspect; because fortune is a woman, and if she is to be submissive it is necessary to beat and coerce her."

Well, technically. Anyway, was living it up down in the bar, so... yeah. Ahem.

Met the new spa manager... Eva? I think it's Eva. Also, finally swapped some jokes with the comedian, Jeff. Of course, he's getting off in Puerta Vajerta... anyway, promised to tell him the "Tis Bottle" joke tomorrow. Must remember to go to the bar tomorrow.

...

Just finished my last John Carter book, "John Carter of Mars". What the deuce happened? I know these stories can end rather abruptly sometimes, but they still have -some- sort of ending tacked on. This one feels like it got interrupted in the middle of something. John Carter was still on Jupiter, the Morgors hadn't been defeated, and he hadn't -actually- rejoined Dejah Thoris. Nothing was -actually- resolved. Total cliffhanger!

Arghle barghle! Slightly drunk and slightly annoyed. On the one hand, just found out my contract was extended for a couple of months, On the other hand, didn't tell the comedian the Tis bottle joke. On the other other hand, did tell the pianist the joke... and my contract got extended!

...

Caught up with the comedian at breakfast today. Finally told the Tis bottle joke, mwa ha ha.

Also, to repeat myself, huzzah! My contract on the ship has been extended for a couple more months! I'll be working until June 18th! Keeping busy and making money, two things that I have been in dire need of for a while now. All this, and tonight there should be shepherd's pie, and in a couple of days is payday, when I'll be able to get some more twenties and get on-line again... everything's looking rosy!
