school suspends boy for wearing vagina halloween costume
a michigan teenager who wore a vagina costume to a school halloween fancy dress contest has been suspended from classes.
christian silbereis says the pink cape decorated with wig hair, satin and lace, was meant to be educational.
after winning first prize for his costume, the 17-year-old was suspended for the rest of the week.
the vagina outfit was created by his mother rosalyn tulip, who is a midwife.
ms tulip told michigan live news she warned her son the costume might make some people feel uncomfortable.
officials at community high school, ann arbor, have refused to comment on why he was suspended.
christian said: "it's anatomically correct. it's just another body part - they teach us about it in school.
"if i won, that means most of the school was down with it. I just don't see what the big deal is - i mean, what if I was wearing an elbow costume? that's part of the body. would they suspend me then?"
students have signed a petition objecting to his suspension.
ms tulip says she supports her son's decision to wear the costume, but will not fight the suspension.
