so chicago was awesome. saw the great tall penis, and then went to symphony center. the mozart on the first half was torture, nice, but it was painful to wait for Mahler. the perfomance was excellent (it's the NYPHil...) but Phil Smith must have been ahving an off night, because he made mistakes. missed notes and some fracking. it sucked a lot, actually, it made listening irritating, because being so attentive anyway, hearing a mistake from the prinicpal trumpet (and horn) of an orchestra that you expect to be perfect makes you edgy and thenyou listnen for it more. but when they were on, they were fucking on. brilliant.
and a nice little story to add on: guy who drove our little trumpet posse up there drives a Porsche, and on the freeway, we raced a Lambergini. crazy nuts.
and I'm appreciating a lot how really really great it is to be around people who are passionate about the same things as I am. it's really a cool thing.
