The World Cup 2006

It's the World Cup. Nationalist passion runs rampant! I didn't know till yesterday that Zidane was Algerian:

Skipper Didier Deschamps put his indiscretion down "to his Mediterranean character, which he cannot always control".

I watched the game at the grad student bar on campus yesterday. Thought it was a pretty shocking way to end to the tourney, and a star player's career (though I was rooting for Italy). Part of me is wondering if I just saw a man's life get flushed down the toilet (probably not the case).

Life is very slow-moving. Work is "independent research," and boy is it independent. South Bay is quite hot and muggy.
