concert, after-party, and I HATE PEOPLE WHO CAN'T DANCE

So enough bellyaching! I wanna tell you guys about the most recent concert I went to...M.I.A.'s gig in Osaka on the 6th!! ...Also, I realize that my RSS feed for this blog goes to several online profiles, and I don't relish the idea of my most recent blog entry being about my leaking bloody anus. =D

Please please please tell me that you know who M.I.A. is!

Half of my friends here were like "M.I.A.? Hell yeah!" Which is what I was expecting, because I thought she was pretty big (at least with people who, you know, listen to new music on a semi-regular basis). But a surprising number were like, "M.I.A.? Uh...are they Japanese?" Lord.

Okay, I realize that I listen to a LOT of Japanese stuff, and a LOT of it is pop, but that doesn't mean I listen to ONLY Japanese Pop!!! Dig?

Anyway.

It was a pretty dope concert. Not the rush of amazing that m-flo was, but I got into it, and so did the crowd (which, around these parts, tends to be the exception, rather than the rule, I'm afraid). M.I.A. definitely knows how to put on a show, even in a small venue like this one was (Club Quattro in Shinsaibashi, if anyone cares).

And we went to the after partyyyyy!!! It was in this super-small mini-bar/club thing. I think M.I.A. and her crew were wanting to keep it low-key so it was very word of mouth...but the place was dead! I think everyone swung by and saw that it was empty...and fucked off. I mean c'mon, I know you don't wanna be the first person there, but SOMEBODY had to be first (whoa Ted, that's kinda deep)! Well, when M.I.A. and her crew rolled around it was pretty dead, but it quickly filled up! Yes!

Except...parts of it were actually kinda lame, thanks to some...oh, what's the word....there isn't one. How do I describe these people? Hm.

I love dancing. And I'm good at it. But that doesn't mean that I look down upon those who are *ahem* less rhythmically-inclined! Okay, so you can't dance. No biggie. You can't dance but you try anyway? Good for you. You can't dance, but you think you're the shit, so you make an asshole out of yourself taking up space and nearly damaging some of the DJ equipment? You askin fo a BEATING.

This blond bitch in a tatty old uniqlo dress stumbled out of some nightmare Spring Break video to flail about and smack people with her hair and limbs! Her fat friends couldn't dance worth shit either, but they had the sense not to make a danger of themselves (except for this one fuck-face guy who danced with her).

At one point in the after party, M.I.A. sat behind the DJ booth rapping, and she was trying to get her pal Cherry to come to the back-up vocals, but Cherry was out front in the crowd...so they had a mic set up in front of the DJ booth pointing out into the crowd so Cherry could sing from there. Cool, right?

Well after they were done with their mini-set, the crowd started dancing again. Fine, right? Except blondo and her crew find that there just isn't enough room for their mad moves (because really, anywhere outside of a padded cell would probably not have enough room to contain their...ugh). Soooothey try to move the goddamn mic. How hard is it to move a mic-stand over to the side of the room? Or just collapse the damn mic? I dunno, but it was impossible for blondo and two of her friends; THEY DROPPED THE DAMN THING ON THE RECORD TABLE. As in, ON THE SPINNING RECORD. WHAT. THE. FUCK. THESE CAPS CANNOT PROPERLY EXPRESS MY WRATH.

Ugh. Anyway.

Aside from these...people...the music was great, and I had a good time chatting up some other denizens of M.I.A.'s fanbase. And best of all, I got a pic with M.I.A. herself (after an entire night of being a giant pussy, under the pretense of being "too cool" to be a fanboy"). =)

Picture! That's me in the upper-left with the stupid grin and hat, there's M.I.A. bent over being a good sport, then there's my man Keith, who fulfills my skinny-white-man quotient (everyone needs a skinny-white-man in their lives), and then there's Cherry, M.I.A.'s sweetheart gal-pal who did the backup vocals. Yaay!
