As most of you know Kenya has been troubled with conflict since the election of Kibaki on December 27th. We both worked at Tumaini orphanage in Kenya this summer and made several friends who live in Mombasa and surrounding areas (such as Bamburi). We were fortunate to get in contact with two of our friends to make sure they are ok (I have included an excerpt from one of our friend's e-mails below).
We are asking you to please assist us in taking a few minutes to contact your local congress person. Please leave messages and send emails letting them know you want them to help. You can access
http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/for contact information. Please we urge you to take the time to do this and pass this e-mail along to everyone you know!
Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers!
Peace & Love,
Amanda & Jennifer Ritz
"Its really not good here at all. I had to fled the house and we are now living in the volunteer house with my cousins. They have burned all shops n bars in bamburi. I called tumaini and they were fine but not sure for how long.
I have to stay in town as its safer for me but am not sure for how long it will. I have just dropped in office so i can use email as all cafes and shops are closed. I went to the bank and i cant ascess money either. Its really crazy.
I have my cousin in eldoret who is having to sleep in a police station for the last two nites as the insecurity is really bad." - Alice
