13 Memory Way

Aug 09, 2008 11:04

Evelyn had gotten up early this morning and headed downstairs to the library. For once, she wasn't pondering weddings and what she should wear or anything of the sort.

She was working on her lesson plans for classes.

She had her tea and the door leading out to the backyard was wide open to let in fresh air while she worked.

Rick leaned on the door frame, a cup of coffee in his hand. It was a beautiful day, and he was going to soak up all the time he could with it. He glanced back to Evelyn who was still busy with her books. Rick sat down in the door way, his feet stretched out. He tilted his head and took off his shoes feeling they wouldn't be needed.

What was it going to be like in a few years with this woman?

That would be about the moment that a young boy walked into the house. He was holding a little girl by the hand and once they were inside, the little girl pulled free and went running to Evie.

Alex shook his head and sat down next to Rick. "Women, huh Dad?"

Rick sipped his coffee and gave an approving nod, yea. He looked as the young woman ran to Evenlyn.

He spit out his coffee in an amazing spray all over his legs and feet.

He looked at the young boy, "Wha..." Rick choked a little on his coffee as his tongue froze in hs mouth, "What did you call me?"

"Did you get thrown into a wall again, Dad?"

Evie made a small squeaking sound as the little girl climbed up into her lap.

"Hi, Mommy. Is that a new book? Daddy frowns when you read things from those."

Rick looked at Evie for something, anything.

"Listen, kid, not to be a complete jerk, but I don't know you." Though, he had to admit, the kid was handsome, probably grow into quiet a man. Rick shook his head, "You seem nice, but I'm not even married...yet."

Alex laughed. "You did get attacked again, didn't you." He sighed. "Okay, Dad," he said slowly. "I'm your son, Alex." He pointed to the little girl. "That's my sister, Raechelle, and that's our mum, Evie."

Rick put his mug down and put his hands on the kid's shoulders. "Alex, " He stared at the kids eyes, he wasn't lying. This kid was serious as a heart attack. Again, Rick looked at Evie and then back at Alex, they had that same look, like they were smarter than they were letting on. "I really don't know what to say. You're obviously telling the truth, and I can see the resemblance, but let me slow it down for you too." Rick mirrored Alex' hand movements as he spoke, "Me and Evie have just gotten engaged a month ago. We met only a year ago in Egypt."

Alex and Raechelle laughed. "Are you trying to play a game with us, Dad?"

The little girl on Evie's lap was examining the book that her mother was reading. "Mommy, that says Pero'duce... that's a word you use in the incantation for mummies."

Rick held up a finger toward Alex whipped around to look at the book, "I really hope she isn't. Evelyn?" Rick nearly begged and pleaded for some help. Sure he'd kinda wished for kids, but this was ridiculous! "And how do you know about reincarnating mummies, little girl?"

The look Raechelle gave him was an identical one to the one her mom sometimes had on her face. "Mommy taught Alex and I how to read the hieroglyphs and what to say if a mummy ever showed up."

Rick bolted to his feet, "You're teaching them how to deal with mummies? Why are you teaching them stuff like that? We're done with the mummies, I don't exactly plan on seeing them again."

Evie gave him a look. "How could I be teaching them anything?" She demanded, looking just as off-balance about their children from the future suddenly showing up. "If I was, it would be to make sure that they would be safe and know what to do if something like that ever happens again."

Rick caught himself, the paternal side actually coming out, he shook his head, "I'm sorry, but they obviously belong to us, but what's going on?" Rick scratched his head as he tried to piece things together, as usual, he figured Evie knew and he was still pondering the answer, " I don't plan on running into another mummy for quite some time thank you very much. Once was enough. I was hoping we buried that book deep enough."
