Hit me hard enough to wake me

I'm finally caught up on Torchwood, so I thought I would take advantage of it and post my thoughts on the newest episode.

I really liked this episode, mainly because it gave a bit more insight to Jack’s life after Satellite 5, and it gave a bit of history of the UK that I had no idea about. That one of the things I love best about Doctor Who and Torchwood, the glimpses into the past. I know most of it is way off the top and sometimes not even about Earth history, but it’s nice to have sci-fi shows with a bit of back story, other than ones for the characters.

I’m tempted to look into the history of traveling shows, just to see if what the episode said was correct, about how the cinema killed off the traveling shows because they lost their audience. I’d never thought of that.

Whoever said that fandom doesn’t teach you anything?

Some random thoughts:

·         I’m so glad that they did not emphasize on the clowns. Its not that I have a fear of them, but they are on my list of ‘Things I Don’t Want To Meet In The Dead Of Night’, which was something that this episode did with the Carnies.

·         Poor Ianto. When he finds things out about Jack, he seems to be a mix of emotions. Part happy that he is finding out about Jack’s super-secret past and part scared that he is going to find out something that he really doesn’t want to know. I would think I would feel the same way in his place, but it seems to be a battle inside Ianto’s head when Jack’s past is brought up.

And am I the only one who thought, during the preview for the next episode, that if Gwen was working on missing people cases in her spare time, it seems to be a bit creepy? I mean, we all have a hobby, but if she is working on something like that with such passion that it seems to be borderline obsessive? Maybe it is just me, since I am one of those people who try hard to leave work at work, and not take it home with me.

review, torchwood
