The Sam Ash on Colonial is closing.
“Man, this is sad. I bought my first guitar amp here.” I regret these words immediately. The longhair behind counter doesn’t need to hear this. I decide to keep to myself. The room is mostly empty. An entire wing devoted to guitars is now a meager display. The kids picked last for the kickball team.
“So what’s next? You got anything lined up?” I can’t tell if they or friends or if this new customer is even more tone deaf than I am.
“You know, I get asked that like 30 times a day.” I continue eavesdropping. “I figured I would just go to the Lee Road store but they announced just 3 days ago that one is closing too.” There’s another response that I can’t hear, but longhair continues. “I’ve been here for 20 years man.”
I came thinking I would get a good deal. Maybe buy some more instruments that I’ll feel guilty about not devoting enough time to. It wasnt until I was inside that I saw it for what it was - grave robbing. Increasing a balance sheet for a liquidation company that didn’t give a fuck about this longhair or his 20 years.
