for some reason, i started looking up information on dogs, dog breeds, pure breeds, mixed breeds, etc, etc, etc and i've learned a LOT in my research but there is still so much to know about each specific breed and just the actual dogs themselves!
i had two dogs, Lucky and Lucy, back in Pakistan but they weren't really mine, i don't know who but they belonged to one of my relatives. even though i've lived with two dogs, i was VERY young at the time and they weren't the kind to be bouncy and in your face friendly so somehow i'd still be scared of big dogs after moving to Canada, especially the very active ones. i managed to get over that fear at my uncle's friend's cottage though. they had 2 dogs, one active, medium sized dog and one calm, large sized but i spent the day with them and i just loved every moment even though i spent most of the time just scratching (not like digging my nails into them though) them infront of the tv. the next time i'd spend hours with a dog would be with Amanda and Nate's 2 large dogs and again i loved it. and the most recent encounter (not last week recent though, like 2 months ago or so) with a dog is with Kellie's bouncy border collie!
yeah ... i pretty much want one now! haha
i'm thinking of a mixed breed but it won't be any time soon as my mom doesn't want any pets in the house, especially a moulting one =(
here are my preferences:
preferably a large one but it doesn't HAVE to be
soft, short-medium length hair/fur* that doesn't shed everywhere and minimal grooming. i don't know if it's something i'd like doing, i probably will like it but i don't know so i'd rather not make a choice and then realize it's not something i'll be able to do
friendly and affectionate because i'd get one as a companion and not for security so minimal barking, if at all
accepting of strangers simply because i have a huge family
easy to train because i don't have much experience training a pet of any sort ... =(
the only thing i'm very undecided on that will affect my decision greatly is the activity level requirement, i know for sure i wouldn't be able to provide daily exercise right now but i definitely want a dog i could go jogging/running with. how often? i don't know ... the ideal healthy lifestyle would be daily exercise though so i'm somewhat leaning towards a very active companion!
right now i'm partial towards the labrador retriever and any large dog of mixed breed with and wolf like appearance =)
*i don't know whether dogs have hair or fur so i went to google for answers but that quickly became unimportant when i came across this myspace page:
