The Magnificent Ambersons (1942)

Ah, The Magnificent Ambersons, another one of Orson Welles's damaged masterpieces, this one having suffered bad editing (particularly in the last, rather hasty act) and then having the original negative destroyed. To give it credit, it's a fabulously inventive film in it's best moments with great characters and still a joy to watch. However, I can't help feeling that enjoying the film is a lot like loving a dog with only three legs. He's still a great dog and you wouldn't give him up because of it, but that doesn't mean you ever stop imagining him sprinting on all four.
