Paige decided she needed to get away from the crowds for a little while and wanted to explore the town. She was carrying a cup of coffee as she explored though.

Jack's sign caught her attention and she had to smile. "Thanks for the welcome," she called from the sidewalk.

"You're.... welcome," Jack told her, saluting her with his beer. "How are you liking the island so far?"

"Honestly? It's giving me a tiny bit of a headache."

Thank you very much for that, Drake.

"Figured I'd take a walk, see a bit more of the town."

"Don't worry, the headache goes away after a while," Jack told her. He looked down at his beer. "Well, you can MAKE it go away, anyway. You here for the school, or just the island's natural beauty?"

"I'm a new teacher," Paige explained, sipping her coffee and looking wistfully at his beer. "Paige Matthews."

Jack snorted. "Good luck. I hope you like strange." He grabbed a cold beer from the cooler and offered it to her. "You gonna ask, or just stand there making puppy-dog eyes?"

Paige walked over but did not take the beer. "Thanks, but I don't drink. I have a feeling this island is going to be more trying on my sobriety than anything I've previously dealt with though."

Jack put the beer back and facepalmed. "Sorry, I didn't know." He shrugged. "Yeah, well, even sober you're THINK you're tripping out of your mind, some days. The island's like that. ...I'm Jack, by the way."

"No need to apologize, Jack," Paige assured him. "I think I would have been a little more concerned if you did know."

Then again, it wasn't like he could tell her anything worse than what Drake told her. "And I've kind of figured that part out. Apparently my older sisters graduated from the school here a few years ago, which means they are younger than me and from another dimension."

Jack shrugged. "My clone -- not my ACTUAL clone, but the clone of a version of me from an alternate universe -- is a student here. I'm used to weird back home, but this place takes the cake."

"Okay, wow, that is even weirder than knowing the majority of my family used to go here," Paige decided.

"Yuh-huh," Jack agreed. "So... what is it you'll be teaching the fresh young minds?"

"Magic," Paige said.

Jack shrugged. "Don't you have to be special in order to learn it? I mean, what are you gonna do with all the non-wizards in your class?"

"I'm focusing more on what magic is and how to avoid getting in trouble with it," she explained.

"Rule number one: don't piss off anybody who can kill you with their mind?" Jack suggested.

Not that that was a rule he'd ever followed. Ever.
