OK, before we move on, I decided to totally yoink this meme from
belial, once I realized I could end up hijacking her entries with my own long comments.
So no one who knows me or reads my LJ could mistake the fact that I love these boys:
For richer or poorer (or even bankrupt!), in sickness or in health, 'til death do us part. The pic above is the one that comes up when I visit Google now. My LJ username is based on the fact that I can have no favorite Penguin, as it invites the wrath of the Hockey Gods on that player's head. So, like my RL children, I love them all equally.
My love affair started with them in 1990, the year Jaromir Jagr was drafted. I didn't have any kind of attraction to him, but my hubby's teenage sister did. She was nuts for the guy and avidly watched every game she could -- which meant that everyone else in the family watched along.
The game and the team grew on me, and that season saw us hoist the Stanley Cup at the end. So did the following season. And the 1992-93 season? We flat-out dominated the league. Imagine that for a moment: you fall in love with a team and they seemingly can't be beaten.
There were years of triumph and years of heartbreak, and players that will live forever in the highlight reels. It was tough remaining a fan through the bankruptcy and the arena mess (as well as a couple of notable Game Sevens!), but in the end, it was all worth it to see a new set of boys climb up that championship ladder.
