Photoshop CS3
8 steps
Easy
1. Open your base, crop to 100 x 100 pixels.
2. Duplicate your base and set to Screen, i set mine to 16%.
This step will depend on you image, you may want to change the setting in the step later on, depending on the outcome.
3. Duplicate your base again, drag to the top and set to Multiply, i set mine to 100%.
This will make your image very dark, so you may want to reduce the opacity to suit your image. I used multiply rather than softlight, as multiply cases a matt darkness, rather than a ligh patchy results like softlight.
4. Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Curves
RGB
Input: 194
Output: 232
This curves layer brings out certain parts of the image while this keep some colours dark. I used this as the multiply had washed out the yellows a little to much for my liking.
5. Create a Fill Layer and Flood with #0a2342 and set to Exclusion, i set mine to 100%.
Out of all the layers this will be the one your change. You may want to use a darker color or reduce the opacity. I used a lighter blue as i really wanted to bring out the purples and blues already in the image, without bring all the colors out aswell. This layer will deffernly differ for each image.
6. Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Sat and up the Master Saturation depening on your image, i set mine to 8.
This layer is subjective, i put it in as i felt the layer above had washed the colors out a little to much, and i really wanted the skin tones to show through a little more.

The exclusion earlier did everything i wanted it to do, but it also washed everything else out. I normally find it removes the detail in people faces, like it did with Kristens here. So i used the selective colour layer to put these details back in. This layer also added a little more depth to the overall image by adding more subtle colors.

I really wanted to bring the reds and purple out in this image, as they were the overriding colors. This colour balance layer did this, it also highlighted the detail brought out in the previous layer.
And your done, as always i love to see what you come up with. But please remember this coloring will not work on every image, so play around with it.
