[series]: Ranma 1/2
[character]: Shampoo
[character history / background]: Shampoo is an extremely well trained girl from an ancient Chinese Amazon tribe. It should be noted that men also lived in this tribe as Mousse was her next door neighbor. Who proposed to her the first time when they were three years old. And Shampoo promptly turned him down and beat him. And he continued even up to the events in the series and Shampoo turns him down every time. Not only because he's weak, but also because he's a dumbass and kept taking off his glasses to propose knowing full well he can't tell the difference between a cat and a statue without them.
While a tournament was happening before the series start, a half-starved, cursed Ranma and Genma Saotome (in their cursed forms) drop in and start eating the first prize: a mountain of food. As Shampoo had, literally, just won the tournament, she got mad at them and Ranma agreed if she could beat Shampoo, then it'd be cool. It took one kick and Shampoo was out of the fight. With her tribe's regulations, Shampoo gave girl Ranma the Kiss of Death; any time someone in the Amazon tribe is defeated by an outsider woman, the Amazon must track them to the ends of the earth to kill them. And Shampoo does it. She chases Ranma and Genma all throughout China until she winds up in Japan, ready to kill. However, she sees Ranma in his boy form for the first time and he kind of accidentally beats her again. So Ranma prepares for a Kiss of Death, only to end up with Shampoo hugging him around the neck giving him a real kiss. Turns out if the Amazon is beaten by an outsider who's male, she has to marry him. Which means Shampoo instantly falls in love because dude. Guy Ranma is so much better than her and she can appreciate that. Or the Amazon laws are that ingrained in her head, who knows.
After a night of Ranma being tormented and running from Shampoo in both forms, Shampoo finally realizes Ranma is both girl and boy, which throws out the whole Kiss of Death thing. Only Akane keeps getting in her way now so she got her own Kiss of Death. Lucky Akane. 8| Shampoo goes back to China and ends up at Jusenkyo with her great grandmother, Cologne, who promptly tells her she failed horribly and knocks her into a cursed spring of a drowned cat. Perfect bride for Ranma, really. After that humiliation, Shampoo moves back to Nerima with her great grandmother, who's eagerly awaiting to meet her son-in-law. The two open the NekoHanten (Cat Cafe) until ...well obviously, they want Ranma to marry Shampoo.

Wiki of Shampoo's fighting styles/attacks because oh my Jesus Rumiko came up with some crazy shit.
[character personality]:
Despite how she first appears in the series, Shampoo's actually not dumb. Just not well versed in speaking Japanese. She's incredibly smart, enough so that she continuously comes up with schemes to outwit Ranma (and usually succeeds sob), sets up decoys and fakes, and blackmails him into a lot of dates. She's very manipulative and vengeful and really, the whole "woman scorned" thing comes to mind when you think about Shampoo and the number of times Ranma rejects her. And then takes her on a date and then dumps her halfway through the date for Akane. She's not afraid of fighting dirty if it means getting her end goal: Ranma. He is the sole reason she stays in Japan and she can't actually go back to her village until she brings him back as her husband. Thanks Amazon tribe, you're wonderful like that. She has no problem faking tears or pretending to be hurt if it means getting her way.
All of this? Comes from her immense pride. It's at the heart of everything she does and her reason for being, it's what she was brought up with and taught at a very young age. Again, all thanks to that wonderful Amazon tribe back in China for drilling that into her. She's very proud of her skills and won't hesitate to take a challenge if it's given to her. Which means Akane is an obstacle in her way, and eventually Ukyo as well. After a while, she kind of leaves them alone unless they're an immediate threat on her time with Ranma.
That isn't to say she can't be happy or sympathetic. A number of times (in the anime anyway) she's shown to have sympathy for P-chan and Mousse. Sometimes. On rare occassions. When it suits her purpose. She really shows a lot more symapthy for Mousse in the second movie, but. In the end, there's only one man for her and that's the only man that's ever defeated her..... Yeah you guessed it. Ranma Saotome. Which leads to the fact that she's really, very, incredibly devoted to Ranma and would do anything for him if he asked as long as he didn't have an ulterior motive, but for Ranma? It's kind of easy to fool her but not really because she's good at playing dumb. But damn does she trust him, unless she's waving a way to end his curse in his face, then she'll have fakes everywhere to ensure he spends time with her and means it. She really thinks and believes Ranma can defeat anyone except Cologne in a fight because he is Ranma, and he defeated her, the strongest of her village.
But seriously, her obsession devotion to Ranma? Almost creepy.

Ranma, wait! Shampoo no care if only for one day! Ranma, take last pill and look at Shampoo! It first come first--
Where Ranma? This not Nekohanten! Great-grandmother, where you go? HMPH! Shampoo no care where, I find Ranma and get him take love potion! RANMA, WHERE ARE YOU?!
[third person / log sample]:
This wasn't fair. Not fair! Ranma swallowed the love potion, so the love that came from it was rightfully hers! She loved him so much and he belonged to her, no matter what Akane said. How could her great grandmother take that from her?! Ranma was supposed to look at her, Shampoo! His rightful fiancee! No one else had any right!
"We no stop them, they really get married!" They were already talking about wedding bells in less than a minute! And great grandmother was just going along with it! How dare she! Akene was mad and upset, but Shampoo didn't care. Akane could cry herself to sleep for all Shampoo cared, Ranma had known Shampoo far longer than Akane anyway. No matter how much Akane yelled for Ranma, Shampoo would win this, she just wasn't sure how yet. She had to snap Ranma out of this. Maybe she could sabatage the wedding somehow. Yes, she definitely could. Maybe being a cat would do the trick? Or maybe something else. She couldn't think, the only thing in her head right now was the man she loved, her rightful betrothed was talking about marrying her great grandmother immediately.
Wait, did he just... Yes, yes Akane's father just stepped in. And there was still hope. Ranma didn't seem to be affected by the love potion anymore. Cologne explained the different times of the effects. And it looked like the instant one Ranma swallowed had worn off. This was wonderful! Shampoo still had a chance to win this! All she had to do was get the other love potions from Happosai, and she knew just how to do it too. But she'd get her great grandmother for this later. Right now was for getting Ranma to swallow the lifetime potion and fall in love with her and they would be happy ever after. Yes, that's the plan! The way to do it! Of course, she knew Ranma would probably play hard to get. He didn't really like Shampoo at all and probably wouldn't swallow either of the pills, but Shampoo could fix that. She'd find a way for him to swallow the lifetime one, when she figured out which one of the two left was which. And she'd have to make sure Akane didn't get in the way as soon as she got her hands on that armband. Oh, that Akane really caused problems, always stepping in the way when she would always get so close to winning Ranma over. The Tendo girl really didn't know when to quit, did she? She was outclassed in every way and it was so obvious; Shampoo would kill her eventually.
But the pills! Yes, the pills! And getting them from Happosai. It wouldn't take much, just a little playing around to get him to let down his guard and she'd have the old man in the palm of her hands ready to hand them over. And she'd dump him hanging upside down for kids to bat at with sticks. It was the perfect plan. And then she would find out from great grandmother which pill was the lifetime and get Ranma to swallow, look at her, and then he would be hers. Finally, after all this time, she could marry him and be happy. And he would love only her and no one else. It would be Shampoo's dream come true.
