Sorry for all the links, but I'm really excited and very proud of this:
Here's a
link to a blog post my hubby wrote. As some of you know, I'm on the board of directors of our county's Mental Health Association. Hubby's been working tirelessly (through the PR firm where he's employed) get some media coverage for them and came up with a great idea, linking the MHA with the
Irish Classical Theater's current play, "Next to Normal" about a woman and her family and their struggle with her bipolar disorder.
Finally, the media is responding to his pitch for some coverage on this, and hopefully, an in-depth piece highlighting different folks' journeys might be on the horizon. In the meantime, he was able to get a
tv interview with one of the MHA's board members and the director of the play. Karl Shallowhorn is not only a board member, but a mental health counselor AND a consumer, living with bipolar disorder for 30 years.
Hubby had the MHA put up an information booth in the lobby of the theater with signage, brochures and info on bipolar disorder, and the info flew out like hotcakes and they had to print more!
This theater presents "other than" plays - not your typical feel good/entertainment stuff, but ones that punch you in the gut and leave you thinking about a topic long afterwards. Hopefully, this will be a great demographic for spreading the word on all that the
MHA does here in Erie County. I got the MHA to create a
facebook page and they're doing a great job utilizing that forum to educate, enlighten, and inspire.
