Amanda Palmer @ the Troubadour, part 1
Here's the first batch of the fuckton of shots I took at the Amanda Palmer gig back in June.
There wasn't a lot of light, so a lot of the shots are "noisy," but I like it. This is the first time I've had any considerable amount of trouble filtering out shots that didn't work because a lot of them made me happy just reminding me of the gig. In fact, I don't know that this first chunk is necessarily that strong, really, but I know some of the later definitely are.
Anyway, I was in this awkward spot half behind one of the weird support things on either side of the front of the stage. There was a light expelling hot air at me on a pedestal in front of me. It worked out that I had a spot then to put my manpurse camera bag and not worry about anyone directly in front of me and people could spill their drinks on my European carry-all camera bag.
The first ten shots are of Amanda's opening act, Jenny Owens Young, who wasn't bad.
Amanda started her set with a Bright Eyes cover on ukulele from the balcony.
A few shots I converted to black and white. This is an artistic choice. It's also cheating.
There's a story to the wine bottle that goes with later pictures. In the background, having just brought out the "Ask Amanda" cards, is Amanda's assistant Beth Hommel, who is pretty awesome in and of herself, as I would expect of anyone who might name a cat Leonard Cohen.
