The other day, I was trying to help this gentleman at one of the senior homes I work at.
He does have dementia (one form, you should know about, is Alzheimer's), though he is still quite capable of walking, eating on his own, etc. and sometimes needs to be cued in order to do these things.
Anyway, he got so confused as to what I wanted that he would not cooperate. Finally I found that if I told him to trust me, and keep saying that, he would actually let me help him. lol.
me: you've got to trust me. Do this. . . okay?
him: Well, you got to trust me too.
me: (tries not to laugh)You're right. We have to trust each other. . . now do this. . .
It was somewhat like trying to reason with a kid.
