The [late]Saturday poem : Column readers join in ! To celebrate the ice bucket challenge

Aug 24, 2014 12:29

Your Saturday poem is late because the columnist is fascinated by the whole ice bucket thing in a scholarly analytical sense merely you understand;) and wasted time yesterday doing serious research ;)

It is great to see money getting raised for MND research and I am very pleased to support it. But it raises all sorts of interesting themes and I can see the PhD theses already in 10 years time :

The Gods of the sacred springs:the power of celebrity culture in the Ice Bucket challenge and

Science and the shower scene:the relationship between research and funding in early 21st century social media.

The hot and wet,the cold and un-nominated: social media charity funding as an indicator of the evanescence of celebrity etc etc

THere will be essays written, fics and vids generated and money made( eg it is pleasing indeed that the UK MND association now has the copyright to a set of pictures of the clever Mr Cumberbatch that the rest of the world's media would kill to have:)

But today readers we present your own chance to have a little late holiday weekend fun in the spirit of the challenge.

So ... whether its a sonnet in appreciation of your challengee of choice ..from the fun to the hot to the utterly cool (Sir Patrick Steward has to be monarch of the last category ) or a limerick about one whom you would still like to see, here is a reader challenge haiku, blank verse, limericks all welcome. Under the cut for a few contributions by the editor ....)

Some British theatrical knights
Had MND funds in their sights
Sir Ian's dancing school
Sir Pat played it cool
Next- Sir D and Sir A up in lights?

A clever young actor named Ben
to help MND funds said:"Well then,
to see how they cope
I'll exploit every trope
from shower to bike-just say when!"

you get the idea so here's hoping.Normal poetry presentation returns next week :)

charity, real life. friends, poetry
