Advent Day 22

Wistfulness, wonder, joy, peace and some element of beautiful disquiet...

was mylodons closing phrase in yesterday's post and has coincided with a conversation on the solstice i had at a carol service this weekend about the 'miracle of the world's turning yet again'.The speaker of that sentence is an atheist physiscist who was makig the point of just how we ignore becuase it simply feels to us that it IS - judt IS - normal that the earth turns again and its orbit cotitnues and how it does good to be reminded of how special and fortunae a circumstance our existence. For him a case of wonder leading to further scientific endeavour, for some of us a wonder to be explored in a conrtext of faith in a creative God, or even just a concept too mind boggling - to imagine what if - one year - it didn't happen.

the things we find miraculous in all senses of that term = things full of wonder, joy, peace and beautiful disquiet are there to be honoured in making us pause and think and in inspiring our own seeking to make something of worth in the life that we have.

Somehow this puts me in mind of two simple carols from different communities - the Appalachain carol I wonder as I wander and the welsh caril O Deued pob cristion often called the poverty carol.
Both are on You tube in a number of versions inclduing the welsh and english lyrics of the latter.
