Still no host... but then that's because I haven't done anything to change that. I'll do that maybe tomorrow... today I have a busy day ahead - a trip to the dog park and a 3.5 hour class on how to be unemployed courtesy of the state. I'll do whatever they want me to do in order to get my weekly check but honestly... people... I was unemployed for 8 months last year. I think I got it down.
Rachael Ray just made the biggest fucking sandwich I've ever seen. And I want it.
K really this post is about Lost.
o__O
I'm still digesting a bit but my first impression was that it was A-MAY-ZING! OMG.
I cried SO much when Jin and Sun had their enlightenment. OMG so hard. And then after that, I cried pretty much the rest of the way.
And I honestly didn't see it coming that in the end, they were all dead.
I think it was clever to use the delivery of Christian's body to represent Jack's path to "letting go" - which was an obvious theme throughout the season. The definite benefit of knowing your end date is that you can build something like this slowly and deliberately and then have it all make sense in the end. I honestly fee like - more than any other series/season - season 6 of Lost was one of the most cohesive bits of storytelling ever.
Random thoughts:
- Ben's flip flopping this season was curious. I enjoyed how he went from being the one who (thought he) knows everything to being just as dumbfounded and scared as everyone else. Once it became obvious to those around him that he wasn't allknowing/allseeing/allpowerful, they pretty much let him be... and, at times, helped him - as in last night when the tree fell on him, Sawyer, Kate and Hurley immediately helped him. He was part of the pack... even though, he - at times - flipped from side to side to whichever side would best serve his needs/wants. I enjoyed how Hurley helped Ben recognize his perceived destiny by asking him to help protect the island. And I loved his last scene with Locke. He was forgiven but obviously his fate is much different than the fates of the other castaways.
- Good lord!! Libby! Juliet! Charlotte! Daniel! Boone! Shannon!
Meh. Shannon. I thought she was kind of annoying before but whatever. I didn't so much buy Sayid and Shannon's revelatory reunion. The love of Sayid's life is obviously Nadia but whatever.
- Ana Lucia... she was in the last episode... why wasn't she in the church? And what about Michael and Walt? Walt was an innocent and they were obviously playing with time and reality so how hard could it have been to explain away that he's 6 feet tall and 18 years old now? I'm not saying we needed to have a lot of Walt... but he should have been in the church. Michael too. He redeemed himself much like Sayid.
- But look! Rose and Bernard!!! :)
- Still miss Eko.
- And what about Frank!?? He was a hero!
- The last scene with Jack's eye closing was pretty awesome. Vincent took care of him, instinctively plopping down beside him to keep him company as his eye closed and he passed on.
LOVED IT. OMG LOVED IT ALL. Thought they did a fucking fantastic job and I think I can forgive Lindelof and Cuse for killing of three of my favourite characters in one episode. That was single-handedly the hardest hour of television for me to watch ever. This was emotionally exhausting but fulfilling.
I told my friend a few weeks ago that I think Lost is one of the great American novels - just in picture form. Beginning to end it has been an intricate, involving, surprising and enlightening story with tremendous character, plenty of room for interpretation and forcing the viewer to confront some of the larger questions of the day - fate vs destiny, good vs evil, love vs loss.
To JJ, Carlton and Damon... and the ridiculous cast, I say thanks and congrats. :)
