Sharing is Caring:
For one week, recommend / share:
Day 1: a songDay 2: a pictureDay 3: a book/ebook/fanficDay 4: a siteDay 5: a youtube clipDay 6: a quoteDay 7: whatever tickles your fancy Erm. I've been trying to figure out what I was going to do for day 7 since about day 2. I have no idea, really. Then I realized MOVIE is not one of the meme's recs... so I'll share a movie. Well, I won't SHARE it because I don't have the cognitive capacity to rip and upload a movie... But I'll discuss one...
My non-existent randomizer picked the movie
CLUE.
Now lately, there's been a rash of board games from my childhood optioned into movies. This boggles my mind.
Get what I did there? BOGGLES my mind? Boggle... get it?
*cough*
Monopoly, Candyland... I think Battleship. WTF people? WHAT. THE. FUCK. As I read the announcements for these movie projects, I shook my head (and uttered WTF on repeat) for a good long while... made fun of these people on Facebook and generally thought that Hollywood must be run by jackasses.
And then I remembered a little gem of a movie called
Clue. Based on the board game from my childhood of the same name. And then I felt like a jackass.
Now there's no way in H-E-Double hockey sticks that a movie based on freakin' CANDYLAND is going to hold ANY interest for me whatsoever (ditto Monopoly and Battleship) but I could watch
Clue every day of the week (and twice on Sundays) and never get bored of it.
First off... let us analyze the tremendous cast:
- Tim Curry as Wadsworth, the butler.
- Martin Mull as Col. Mustard.
- Michael McKean as Mr. Green.
- Madeline EFFING Kahn as Mrs. White.
- Eileen Brennan as Mrs. Peacock.
- Christopher Lloyd as Prof Plum.
- Lesley Ann Warren as Ms. Scarlet.
- Howard "Johnny Fever" Hesseman as the Chief.
This cast is comic GOLD. OMG so many of my comedy heroes. It could only get better if they somehow wiggled John Ritter, the cast from the Carol Burnett Show and the Not Ready For Primetime Players in there as well.
This movie is ENTIRELY quotable. In fact, I'd say on a weekly basis I work in at least one line from
Clue into every day conversation... usually "Communism was a red herring" (which is my fave quote) or "I had to stop her screaming!" or "I hated her, so much... flames... flames on the side of my head..." (Madeline Kahn... OMG I love you) or "I'm gonna go home and sleep with my wife" or *singing* "I... AM... a singing telegram...".
Yes. I DO actually manage to work all of those into normal, every day convo... and am usually greeted with strange looks.
The banter in this movie and the timing of the delivery is in effect... a master class on how to make people laugh their ass off.
Additionally, the ending of this movie is so incredibly clever. Or shall I say... ENDINGS. Three endings... OMG I love it. It's like a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book from the 80s. Anyone else remember those??
Throw in a terrific score/soundtrack, a fantabulistic set and a handful of incredible character actors... this is one movie that will forever reside in my top-ten comedies of all time list. At like #2 or #3... depending on the day... maybe even #1.
Behold... the genius of Madeline Kahn...
