As requested by the very talented
a_girls_story , here is a tutorial for one of my recent SPN icons...

Go from this to:
in seventeen moderately simple steps!

step 1: run auto levels on the cap (SHIFT/CTRL/L)

step 2: crop and resize the image; I sharpened the image (FILTER/SHARPEN/SHARPEN) and the faded (SHIFT/CTRL/F) the effect to 30%

step 3: create a CURVES adjustment layer (input 170/output 230); set to normal at 100%

step 4: create a new layer and fill with 2E0602; set to exclusion and knock the opacity to 50%

step 5: create a new layer and fill wtih F8BD60; set to colour burn and knock the opacity to 20%

step 6: create an SELECTIVE COLOURING adjustment layer; set to normal at 100%; use the following settings: REDs: -82, +39, +46, 0 and YELLOws: -90, -50, +46, 0

step 7: duplicate the SELECTIVE COLOURING adjustment layer; set to normal at 20%

step 8: create an SELECTIVE COLOURING adjustment layer; set to normal at 40%; use the following settings: NEUTRALs: -19, +2, +8, +2

step 9: select the entire image (CTRL A) and copy merged (SHIFT/CTRL/C); paste the image on top of all layers (CTRL V); set to screen and knock the opacity back to 20%

step 10: use the following texture from
sanami and set to linear burn at 100%

step 11: use the following texture from
dusty_memories and set to linear burn at 100%

step 12: use the following texture from
dusty_memories and set to soft light at 30%

step 13: create a CURVES adjustment layer (input 44/output 43 and input 207/output 215); set to soft light at 50%

step 14: use the following texture from someone who is totally awesome but who I do not know and set to screen at 60%

step 15: create a TEXT layer using font colour 440E09 and font JackInput on 9t; rotate as desired

step 16: duplicate the TEXT layer; on the bottom text layer, render the layer and blur (FILTER/BLUR)

step 17: set top text layer to 80%

Voila!!! When all is said and done, your layers should look like this. I hope that works... the only thing I wasn't 1000% sure of was the first curves layer... it's darn close though. The cap is from Supernatural Caps. Please comment if you have any questions.
