Election Goodness
So I got my absentee ballot the other day. Fairly normal stuff for the most part until I get to Governor and find out that one "SUPERDELL" Dale Schanze is running on the Libertarian ticket. For those of you who don't live in Utah, "SUPERDELL" was once a fairly prominent computer salesman with a company known as "TOTALLY AWESOME COMPUTERS", known for acting frenetic, bizarre, and generally batshit crazy in his commercials. To be fair, the computers were generally good deals, and I have to admit that is where I purchased my PC back home.
He also once paid for large chunks of ad time which basically served as an infomercial for his overall philosophies on life and raising children; by this point I realized that his persona was not an act. Anyway his business eventually tanked, and if I am not mistaken there was some scandal involved in the downfall (I don't want to get sued for e-libel). Afterwards he got in trouble for allegedly shoving a gun in the face of a someone who he had an altercation with while driving. There was a large article in Salt Lake City Weekly a few years back about the incident and SUPERDELL in general, and it did not portray him in a positive, or stable, light. To get the point, I will now transcribe his blurb in the voter information packet, accessed today, October 24, 2008 from http://elections.utah.gov/
"SUPERDELL is your only choice because YOU didn't file. Huntsman took away your freedoms and raised taxes more than any governor in the history of Utah. Springmeyer has admitted that he doesn't care about the constitution. The definition of the word insane is voting for the same people while expecting change."
At this point the blurb doesn't seem that extraordinary, maybe a little hyperbolic but come on, he is a libertarian. Anyway, after this it gets better.
"There is no question that Dell Schanze is different. There are only 3 people on the ballot and SUPERDELL is the only one that is NOT socialist. If you are unsure then fill your heart with love, completely open your mind and pray to God earnestly. You can't afford to get this wrong and will be held accountable for your choice."
I'm not positive, but I think SUPERDELL just threatened us.
Does your state, or any state you know have someone crazier running for office? The only person I could come up with is maybe the man who changed his name to "Pro-Life" in Idaho running for US Senate.
