Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.

Another rant, girls and boys...and it's not as angsty, this time!

So, I was surfing the internet, and I remembered that
clamp_icontest had voting up. I'm more of a spectator there, so I like to see everyone's submissions. But, I came upon was something shocking: an icon that I'd seen before...one that had been submitted to one of my icontests. I was immediately disturbed by the action.

You see, at one of my icontests, I have a rule that if you get first place three weeks in a row, you cannot submit for three weeks so that other members have a chance to place. The iconist who made the icon I saw had submitted it at one of my icontests, but since she has a habit of placing first (a lot),  I asked her not to submit for three weeks, and I couldn't accept her two submissions that she had made two weeks ago.

Now, that's all said and good. She had already expressed last week that she was still making icons out of the bases I offered, so it wasn't too much of a surprise if she used them.

However...however, I ask that when someone uses one of my bases they give me credit somewhere...in their userinfo, icon posts, resource list...though she usually doesn't give the community credit for the base use besides when asked.

So...when I saw that she had recycled one of her entries that I couldn't accept at my community (by default)...I could see why she would dare do it, because only a few select people had seen it...but, even so, she did it, and without any credit to us. That was very, very disheartening.

I told the moderator of the icontest, though she failed to even mention it, besides that a few votes may be biased because the icon was already seen by a few people. No surprise there...I told my co-moderator, and this is what she said: WTF. Right-o.

I suppose I didn't make it clear at my community if I receive retaliation and rebuttal, so I will the next time I post. Because...now I fear that even more people may be using the bases without crediting.

This kind of reminds me of a commercial I saw once...

You wouldn't steal a car...you wouldn't steal a television...you wouldn't steal a child...so why would you steal someone's graphic work?
Piracy is a crime. Maybe not to everyone else, but I feel so. Don't steal my work...or I'll hunt you down. I'm (most of the time) very mild-mannered...but this really irked me, and nobody did anything about it. Making bases isn't easy...good bases, that is.

I will not allow this piracy to go on any longer...and if need be, I will take appropriate action.

So, lesson learned? You take, YOU BETTER CREDIT SOMEWHERE THAT I CAN SEE IT. Any violations will not be tolerated any longer, because I easily recognize my work..and since most of the images I use are rare, that makes it all the more obvious when you pirate my work. As long as you do that, there'll be no problem.

I don't mean to cause commotion...but it just bothered me a great deal on Saturday.

Rant done.

Post scriptum: While we're talking about pirates, I really, really miss Carla. I wished she didn't live on the other side of the country. D:
