Part II of Update
One Year Later
Lavi leaned back against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest, his multicolored eyes staring at the door in front of him. For the past year, the redhead had been searching around for any clues about Fourteenth after the Noah vanished after a fight against the Earl, and it had only been six months so far that Lavi was imprisoned in the Vatican for being under the suspicions of being in league with him. Lavi wanted to scoff at the idea of it, knowing better than to be involved with Neah’s crazy plots. Though, he knew that the Vatican wouldn’t listen to him, not when they’re suspicious of everyone now that had been in contact with the Noah. Sighing, Lavi rested the back of his head against the wall as he listened to the footsteps walking by his cell.
Though, he looked at the door when he heard it creak open, eyes narrowing when he caught sight of Leverrier entering the room. Lavi remained unfazed by the glare he received from the older man, opting to raise an eyebrow at him instead.
“What? I thought my trial wasn’t coming up until noon tomorrow,” the Bookman remarked.
Leverrier continued to glare at him. He replied, “A few unexpected guests wanted to come visit you.”
“Oh? Who-” Lavi quickly shut his mouth when he noticed a couple of old men enter his cell, getting off of the wall as he stared at them in surprise. Though, when one of the old men glared at him, Lavi bowed to them in respect.
“Leave us,” he heard one of the men say to Leverrier. Leverrier gritted his teeth, but soon left the cell with a slam of the door, leaving the three alone. Lavi continued to remain quiet, choosing to stare down at the floor until the elders began to talk. He winced at the sudden impact on his cheek, staggering back as he gently touched it, staring at the elders in surprised.
One of them took a step forward, eyes glaring at Lavi. “You have gotten yourself into more deeper trouble this time, Bookman Junior. You know very well that you were ordered to leave the moment the Fourteenth Noah betrayed the Order. Why have you refused to do so?”
Lavi didn’t answer for a moment, clenching his hands into fists before relaxing it. He looked back at the elder. “Because this record isn’t done yet. Not until this war is finished.”
“But the war was finished the moment Neah had joined the Noah,” the other Elder stated, his hands folded behind his back. The redhead glanced over at him briefly before looking at the other Elder - the one that reminded him too much of old man Zhu back in the Asia Branch.
He replied, “That’s where you’re wrong. Neither of you know what the Fourteenth is capable of.”
“And you do?” the Elder that resembled Zhu asked, his eyes cold and calculating as he continued to stare at the redhead.
The younger Bookman smiled. “I’ve been with the Order for a few years. I’ve come to know how he thinks. But, what I’m more curious about is to why you’re here. I know that you didn’t come to question my allegiance to the Clan.”
“We came to talk to you about your duty, Lavi,” the younger Elder - the one with his hands folded behind his back - answered. Lavi looked at him, gazing at him thoughtfully.
“I know where my duty lies. That’s nothing you guys should be worried about,” Lavi told them, closing his eyes as he leaned back against the wall. There was a moment of silence before the redhead heard the two Elders leave, opening his eyes once he heard the door slam shut. Lavi released a sigh, reaching into his shirt and pulled out a chain with a ring attached to it, gazing at it longingly sadly. It had been a year since he had last seen the one he cared about, but he knew that there was nothing that can do to return to that place.
He chuckled a bit. Never before had he believed he would come to think that place as “home.” Though, Lavi didn’t give it much more thought when he suddenly heard an explosion coming from somewhere nearby. Getting off of the wall, Lavi peered out of his room to see a strange creature heading towards him. The Bookman quickly jumped back just as the door was destroyed, coming face-to-face with a behemoth. The redhead stared at it, feeling his Seal flare up, indicating that this behemoth was created out of Innocence.
Lavi released an annoyed sigh, looking at the behemoth with a wary look. He knew that if he fought against it, Lavi would take the risk of becoming a Fallen, and that wasn’t something he planned on doing. Though, the redhead took a step back when he felt the floor beneath them crumble, revealing a gate hidden underneath them. The Bookman’s eyes widened a bit. It was a gate that belonged to Neah, but what was it doing here? Lavi gritted his teeth as he fell through, transforming himself into a phoenix on instinct in order to prevent himself from falling onto the ground with a crash.
Releasing a cry, Lavi landed on a safe surface, transforming into his human form before he looked around to get a better grasp as to where he was. He stiffened a bit when he noticed that he was in Matel, cursing a bit under his breath.
“Fourteenth, when I get my hands on ya, I’m gonna be sure ta kill ya myself,” he growled out.
