Summary:  Kyuhyun moves to the countryside because of his condition. But what he didn't know was that he's going to uncover a family secret.

"I used to be a human, now I am just a doll.

I am not expected to have feelings nor any knowledge.

But I know them all, I still can remember.

The pain of not being able to sleep.

The torture one has for seeing things you don't even want to see.

I am physically lifeless but my mind is alive.

I am starting to think I will be trapped forever underneath this cold surface.

I wonder when somebody will come and let my soul meet my body..."

----

"Are you sure you're bringing him there...?" Hangeng asked as Heechul prepared them for them.

"Why not? He'll have a rest there..."

"But..." He bit his lips as he felt anxious about the decision.

"Don't worry; I am sure they'll get along well..."

The 18 year old Kyuhyun was in a car, on his way to the old house. Heechul was beside him, driving.

“Sorry if this ride is taking a while.”

“Its okay, Uncle,” Kyuhyun smiled politely.

It’s been an hour since they started traveling and his body was starting to get tired. His chest was starting to act up and he placed his hand on his left chest hoping it’ll calm down.

Kyuhyun looked outside and realized they’re already out of the city. Trees have replaced the tall buildings and green grass replacing the usual cement ground he sees. Heechul used the keys on his side to open the car windows a little bit. A gush of wind came in and Kyuhyun closed his eyes as he took a deep breath.

“Thank you…” he smiled.

The fresh air surely calmed his nerves. His mother was right. He really needed to start living along the countryside because of his condition.

Heechul made a turn and Kyuhyun saw a high metal gate from the distance. Once they got closer, it automatically opened and he saw this old Victorian house that stands inside the big lot.

“We’re here,” Heechul said as he shut off the engine. The doors automatically unlocked and they stepped off the car. Kyuhyun looked around and saw that almost kind of wildflowers were available on the surrounding garden. It was so wide that if the house wasn’t there, you wouldn’t think this was a residential lot at all.

He looked at the house and even it seems old, it was properly maintained. Everything looked vintage yet there’s certain nostalgia in everything. Then something from the attic got his attention. He felt like something’s there, like someone was looking at him.

“Kyuhyun!”

Kyuhyun shifted his gaze and saw Ryeowook walking his way towards him.

“I’m glad you finally decided to stay with us.”

“I guess I do need that change,” Kyuhyun smiled politely.

“Oh you’re so proper and all! Let me hug you!”

As he was hugging Ryeowook, Yesung came out from the door and smiled at him.

“Kyuhyun.”

“Hyung,”

Ryeowook and Heechul snickered when Yesung and Kyuhyun just shook hands.

“What?” Yesung asked.

“Nothing,” Heechul smirked.

“We already arranged your room for you, do you want to see it?” Ryeowook asked.

“Okay, thank you.”

“Heechul hyung, stop by for tea before you go back to Seoul.”

Kyuhyun can’t help but look at the attic window again before walking inside the home. He was sure he saw something in there.

------------------

He saw me, he saw me from down there.

I felt it.

Did my fingers just twitched?

I want to look down but my eyes won’t move. I can’t even sigh from this sadness that I am feeling.

Seems like this will just be another night where I won’t sleep, wait for time to pass even though I am waiting for nothing.

-------------------

Kyuhyun went to his room for the night to sleep early that day. The traveling they had only taken 2 hours tops but his body already felt so tired.  He changed into his pajamas and climbed into his bed. He sighed happily as his back touched the mattress. It felt just right to be in this house. Time moves slow and the air is great. Maybe he’ll have good dreams tonight.

To which, he did.

In his dream, Kyuhyun was walking on a wide field of grass. The sky was blue and the sun’s light felt just right. Then as he looked forward, he saw was someone sitting on a picnic blanket. He walked toward that person and realized the person had his back on him. Kyuhyun walked closer and saw it was a guy. For some reason his heart started beating. Not the bad kind where he feels sick. It was the kind where he feels warm and… happy?

[Who is this person…?]

He tried calling out but his voice won’t come out. Instead he reached out his hand to touch the person’s shoulder. The guy turned his head and looked at Kyuhyun.

“You finally came.”

Kyuhyun opened his eyes still feeling woozy. He saw from the window that it was already morning. He held his left chest and felt his heart beating. Still the same way as it did in his dream…warm and happy.

He looked at the see through white curtains that moved slowly by his window. The sun had started to fill up the room. He heard birds chirping from the outside. So different from the city life he used to live in.

This day felt like it’s going to be different.

He took a warm shower and changed into proper clothes. Then he went downstairs to eat breakfast. As he was walking his way from the stairs and into the dining room, he heard his hyungs’ voices.

“Poor kid, he never even got to finish college because of his condition.”

“His heart never went normal?”

“He’s been in and out of the hospital since he was a kid and that never changed. Now he’s here so he can get his body for that operation.”

“I hope we can help him somehow…”

Kyuhyun leaned on the wall and sighed. He can’t help it but he’s tired of people taking pity on him. Just because of heart problem he have, people always tend to feel sorry for him. He hated being a burden to people and hoped this will soon change.

To prevent the awkward situation, he decided to come back to his room and stay there for a while. Maybe he can read the new books he brought along. As he turned around and started walking up the stairs quietly, an image from his dream flashed into his mind.

“You finally came.”

[What could have triggered that dream?]

Then what he remembered what he felt when he looked up at the attic.

He looked behind him to see if he was seen by his hyungs, when no one’s at the hallway, he continued walking up the stairs until he reached the top floor. There was the door leading to the attic. He held the knob, hoping it wasn’t locked. He slowly turned it and was glad when he heard it click. He slowly pushed the door and went in.

The attic was dim as only one of the big windows had its curtain drawn. He looked around and saw old boxes and furniture. There was also an old grandfather clock that ticked loudly. As he walked around, he saw old things that were kept to their family for generations. It was like the room was full of old treasures that have been forgotten. And then there he saw that someone was standing at the end of the room.

“Who are you?”

It didn’t answer.

Kyuhyun walked closer and waited for his eyes to adjust from the dark part of the attic. As soon as it did, he saw that the figure was not of a human but of a mannequin. He drew the curtains of the other windows to let more light in. He looked back at the mannequin and was surprised at how it looked like.

It was like the guy he saw from his dream.

He walked closer again and stared at it. It was amazing how real it almost looked like. It was wearing real clothes. But when he touched its arm, it was cold and hard. Everything was made of wood… except the eyes. The light seemed to reflect on it as it was made from glass.

“Were you the one who appeared from my dream?”

“Kyuhyun?”

He looked at the door as he heard Ryeowook’s voice from downstairs.

“I’ll be back,” he said to the mannequin and went out.

Kyuhyun saw Ryeowook on the hallway on the way to his room.

“Oh, there you are, you ready for breakfast?”

“Yes, if it’s okay.”

They walked their way into the dining room and Yesung stood up, ready to leave for work.

“I’ll be going now, Kyuhyun enjoy your breakfast,” Yesung smiled.

“I’ll just walk him out, okay?”

“Sure.”

Kyuhyun smiled to himself seeing how sweet his cousin and his hyung are. He was sure they were just shy to kiss in front of him.  He wondered what it’s like to have someone to hide things with.

When Ryeowook came back and started giving his dongsaeng’s breakfast, Kyuhyun asked him a question.

“Who uses the mannequin up in the attic?”

“You’ve been at the attic?”

Kyuhyun nodded.

“Hmmm… All I know is that no one really used it. But it has been in our family for years… or if what the elders said was true, centuries even.”

“Huh? What do you mean what the elders said?”

“Well there’s a story behind that mannequin, but I am not sure if that’s true…”

“Please tell me all about it?”

“The story was that one of our great grandfathers was an inventor. And then he got really famous that the king asked him to do this certain project for his castle. I think it was something like a constellation map or something but it failed because the materials he had weren’t good enough. I think it was suppose to do something special but he declined to make it work. He was about to be killed when suddenly this certain person, our great grandfather’s friend submit himself to the king saying he was the one who stopped the thing from being invented. The king got furious and ordered a curse to be spelled on him. That spell will only be broken when that our great grandfather has decided to continue the invention. And until now, no one has dared to make it.”

“Does anyone know what that was supposed to be?”

“I don’t think anyone believed the elders, like it was just considered as an old tale.”

“The man that was cursed was that mannequin upstairs?”

“They said so, yes. Why the sudden interest?”

“Hmmm… nothing,” Kyuhyun smiled.

-------------------

Night fall came and it was time for everyone to sleep again.

But someone’s about to wake up.
