adventures in my yard.

Tonight I took advantage of the superb weather to pick up my bicycle- While attempting to put the mounting for the damed U-lock on the frame was pretty frustrating and isn't quite done (I think it need strong manly man hands to finish tightening it. Which galls somewhat) putting on easily the klaxton twisty horn that makes a most satisfying ( Read more... )

An ice-cold beer after gardening is truly one of life's smallest but nicest pleasures.

I'd take some hyssop! I'll trade you for asparagus seeds--I bought them not realizing they take three years to harvest, and we won't be here that long.

And thank you for reminding me, I wanted to look up a plant...bells of st. clemens, I think they're called...

that sounds great! Do you know if asparagus does well in pots, or is it strictly a bed-grower?

Strictly a bed grower. Asparagus is tricky. It has to be trenched when planted. I have never started from seed. It will take forever. I bought young plants. The can't be picked for three years. But once established, they produce their heavenly green stalks for many years.
My bed is done after ten years, because I didn't get younger ones started.

I honestly don't know. I've never tried to grow asparagus before. It does say on the package that in the second year, you have to dig up and separate the roots...so maybe if you try it in a pot, be prepared to have two pots?

Mmmmm... garden poetry. I love it!

I had to finish my major weeding, prep and planting before my surgery this week and Saturday and Sunday saw compost mixing, veggie bed prep, planting my veg, planting some more hostas (hope springs eternal that they might grow one day), planting some new wacky perennials as well as a few begonias and alyssum (gods alyssum smell SO good at night). I think I spent most of Saturday morning weeding... my hamstrings definitely noticed the workout!

I have a project in mind for June for when I recover, I'm not sure if it'll be too late but I want to build a raised bed for the front yard, just some pretty bricks and a 8-10" wall that I can fill with earth and give a few perennials a chance to actually get their roots in before the tree turns the earth to stone again. I might wait until next year... or at least build the wall this year but fill it with earth next spring. Ooooh, the dirty dirty possibilities... *sigh*
