So my Mom wants to keep one of my cats now. I'm not happy about this, but I'm considering letting him stay with her and giving some other needy cat a good home. I'd have to find a kitty that fits with the other one I will be taking from her soon. I looked on Craigslist and the Lucky Cat Rescue site. Can anyone tell me where else to look?

also: i would not get a dog, if i were you...dogs require *so* much attention and space, especially when young.

Well, I'm not thinking about getting a puppy. I would also probably get a small dog and / or one that tends to do well in an apartment. I'll probably just get a cat, but it's a consideration.

I know what Aurora's saying - it isn't just puppies, it is *all* dogs. They're just naturally more in need of attention, all the time. Two cats together will entertain each other. A cat won't do that for a dog. Not that I don't love dogs, but they really need you in ways that cats don't.

No matter what - pics when you get 'em! Yay pets!

Well, she did specifically mention that they need more attention when they are young. I understand that dogs need more attention than (most) cats. What I don't understand is why people feel the need to warn me about it.

I hope I didn't make you feel like you were dumb or uneducated about it. ._.

I know that a lot of people who have never had dogs don't realize how much they're like having a kid. I tend to overstate that when I talk about dogs. I don't doubt for a second that you could handle it, I just rolled out my usual spiel. I didn't mean to offend! I think you're great! Meep!

It wasn't just you. I got that comment from others too. I'm wondering if it's because they find the idea of having to take care of a dog to be too much hassle, or if people lack confidence in my ability to do so.

I haven't actually had a dog all on my own, but I have taken care of dogs. I haven't had a kid either, but you have to be a beginner at this stuff at some point. I know that some dogs are supposed to be happy enough living in apartments, and can be left alone for a while (esp. with a companion). I'm pretty sure that they haven't designed any babies that are suitable for that yet though.

I hope you didn't think I was implying about your abilities. It is more about the commitment. Most of us are very busy people and don't have a lot of time to devote to animal care hence why cats are great companions. Dogs have that whole walking thing. But anyway, I didn't mean any offense or anything...

I don't think that taking care of a dog is too much hassle. I think that I just think as a cat person primarily [and you as one by default, I think] and also I tend to play the devil's advocate too much. I definitely don't doubt your skill at managing a dog! Again, I apologise if I came across that way.

I have primarily been more of a cat person, but I like all kinds of animals. I don't think I'm ready to start my own zoo just yet, but I think I could deal with a "lower maintance" breed of dog. I know a fair amount about a bunch of breeds already, and would definately do more research if I do decide to get a dog. I really don't like the attitude that a lot of people (not accusing anyone I know) have that pets are disposable, and I want to know what I'm getting into.

I'm sorry that I kind of snapped about it. I've had some of my family make negative comments about me, and it would hurt to think that my friends didn't have confidence in me either.

I totally understand. I do have confidence in you and feel like poop for not conveying that. What kinds of little/smaller dogs do you like? My friend Maya has a great chihuahua who actually is a *lot* like a cat... a very silly and momma-loving cat-dog. :D

I was thinking maybe a Boston Terrier or a French Bulldog. It looks like I will probably be trying to take my second cat after all, or one of the others possibly now. It's starting to look like they may all be homelss soon anyway.

French bulldogs are *adorable* and I love terriers of all types.

I hope the kitty crisis gets averted! If I was living there I'd definitely look at one... although Squeegee might have an issue with a new cat in the house. ;)

Will there be pictures soon? I want to see you, kitties, and your new place!

I like a few terriers, but some of them are just too hyper and noisy. Some of them need a lot of attention.

You don't think Squeegee might want a pretty little female companion? ;)

Hopefully everything will be ok with the animals. We'll see...

As for pictures...I need to learn how to transfer them from my new camera phone to the internet. You might get to see it sooner if you come up here in person ;)
