Reply to this post saying "pick me" or something similar. I'll pick one of your interests, and then you must tell me a lot about it. Then I (and the other readers here) will learn a bit more about you and your interests.

I always end up doing these things on Friday, which means hardly anybody will get around to actually responding to it, but oh ( Read more... )

The Tao or The Way... alannakitty July 17 2006, 15:08:21 UTC
Tao Te Ching: 1

The tao that can be told
is not the eternal Tao.
The name that can be named
is not the eternal Name.

Basically, Taoism is a form of eastern philosophy and when mixed with Buddhism is is called Zen Buddhism. It is a way of thinking and living ones life. As the quote says... the Tao cannot be put into words nor named.

When I was going through some really rough stuff about 2 years ago; Eric who goes out to Orpheus on occasion (plays chess and dresses in priest type wear) mentioned Taoism and Buddhism to me. I started reading up on Buddhism but I didn't really relate to that is as fully as I did to Taoism. I'm not nearly as well read or as "into it" as I like to be. The biggest thing I like about it is how peaceful and mindful things are. I was saying that I wanted to be more at "peace" and eastern philosophy really connects with me on that level. I find it much more knowledgable and can relate to it better compared to other "religions" and philosophies. I just wish I were a bit better at keeping up with my reading and "trying" to live a more peaceful and mindful life; esp. since I'm so anxiety ridden.

Hope that answers your question(s). :)
