i'm actually due to renew my contract this month as well, but since i got the whole "new every two" deal i get a new phone and stuff... allegedly. i've never done it before so i'll see how it works out.
i do prefer the office in reisterstown over the rolling road office, as a side note.
The last time we renewed with them, we had to pay $20 a piece for our new phones. They give you so much in credit towards the new phone and we picked a cheap replacement. I don't know if they have changed how this works since then.
I'm with Cingular. (They bought me when they bought AT&T Wireless.) The coverage seems decent, and the plan is OK on my budget. I haven't tried their support line, so I don't know if they are compentent or clueless.
I take good care of my phones, so my contracts end before the phone dies. I usually renew the contract when I need a new phone. Last time I got a phone for free by committing to a two-year contract. The phone met most of my requirements: Nokia, no camera, good battery life. I wanted a monochrome screen, but they had only color models.
The phone is OK. I like the battery life; the buttons are a little harder to use than the previous one. Also, the phone spits out occassional noise on the FM band, strong enough that my walkman is overwhelmed. I don't know how the FCC let them get away with that. But these are complaints about the phone, not the service.
T-Mobile has excellent customer service, but semi-decent coverage beyond Baltimore County. I'm about to switch over to Verizon, personally (I love the coverage for them!)
I think I'm going to stay with Verizon. It seems that I know a lot of people who use them as well, so I can call those people without using up my minutes. Plus, there are several free phone offers I'm looking at. I just need to decide which phone and take the time to sign-up.

I'm looking up deals online right now. I'm finding all kinds of promotional deals for free phones. I'm not sure how this applies to renewing your contract. So far I'm liking https://www.wirefly.com/viewcart.aspx?cid=21427_1d0b47dcf25548c5a9af827987477537&referringdomain=wirefly&linkpage=specialoffer.aspx fancy Vcast phone. It's a free phone with a bunch of cool features that I may never even use...but I could if I wanted to.
