sit the fuck down

dear everyone on my facebook feed who is saying shit like "we're doomed," "this is the beginning of the end" and "this is the downfall of america"...

seriously, shut the fuck up. if you love america, how can you think she'll cease to exist after a huge voter turnout and a pretty clearcut majority choose their leader? isn't that the whole goddamn point, isn't that what people have bled and protested for all these years? the chance to do that? this year, partisan stuff aside, I've been really proud of how people have really gotten excited about their country's policies and how they fiercely advocated for what they believed in (on both sides). people really put their hearts and souls into this. thousands of new voters voted.

you may disagree with the choice, but how dare you suggest america will be permanently damaged because of its democracy, because of its free choice. if america comes to an end, it won't be because of a surge of passion and political process, that's for damn sure.

so if you have as much pride in your country as you say you do, show it and lose gracefully, just as others have had to do. you've become too complacent in your power. be proud your country has stepped up to the plate and made its decision. be proud we, in 2008, have finally elected a black man. accept that this is how it goes and don't whine about the end of our nation because things didn't work out the way you hoped.

disagree as you will but obama is not: the antichrist, a socialist, going to fuck our country beyond fixing.

if people voting will destroy our country, our country is built on false premises and doesn't deserve to exist at all. but I'm a little more optimistic than that and I am a pretty cynical person. I can only hope people will see the silliness of this. America has a lot of problems. This situation isn't one of them. Mccain set a very gracious and civil example. FOLLOW IT.
