With the 4e Ivalice game I'm kicking around, I'm going to need some 4e versions of Final Fantasy monsters. With this in mind, I decided to try my hand at monster design. First up, the status-inflicting terror known as the malboro.
Malboro
Large natural magical beast (plant)
Level 12 Controller
700 XP
Initiative: +5
AC: 26 Fort: 26 Ref: 20 Will: 21
HP: 116
Bloodied: 58
Regeneration 5
Perception: +6, darkvision
Speed 4
@ Tentacle (standard; at-will)
Reach 3; +17 vs. Reflex; 2d6 + 5 damage, and slide the target up to 3 squares. This movement cannot move the target more than 3 squares away from the Malboro.
+ Bite (standard; at-will)
+17 vs. AC; 3d6 + 5 damage.
< Bad Breath (standard; recharge 5, 6 ) * Poison
Close blast 5; +14 vs. Fortitude; 3d8 + 5 poison damage, and the target takes ongoing 5 poison damage and is slowed (save ends both). After-effect: The target is slowed (save ends). Secondary attack: +14 vs. Will; the target is dazed and blinded (save ends both).
Threatening Reach
The malboro can make opportunity attacks against all enemies within its reach (3 squares).
Alignment: Unaligned
Str 19 (+10) Dex 12 (+7) Wis 14 (+8)
Con 22 (+12) Int 5 (+3) Cha 6 (+4)
Many thanks to the folks in the 4e D&D thread on FO for critiquing my original design and helping me fine-tune it!
