I seem to have run out of icons, and other musings

Alas, my LJ account has gone unpaid. I'll look into fixing that.

Anyway, the trip out to San Francisco was fun. We didn't see many of the standard touristy things - Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate Bridge all went unvisited, but that just leaves more for the next trip. We did visit Japantown (and did a lot of shopping there), Chinatown was right outside our hotel, and we walked through the Embarcadero early on Sunday morning, all the way to the bay. We don't have many pictures, mostly because our camera crapped out on us at the beginning of the Chinese New Year parade. I have a few pics on my phone, which I will transfer and upload sometime this week. For our next trip, I plan on having a new camera.

On a side note, traveling, even on a prepaid trip, has gotten ridiculously expensive. $30 to check in our suitcases at the airport each way, $13 for two gallons of gas for the rental car, $89 to park the car at the hotel for 2 1/2 days... the sticker shock almost kept me from enjoying the trip. Fortunately, we're getting the parking reimbursed, but still, it's highway robbery. I'm glad we didn't eat at the hotel, too - $21 a plate for their breakfast buffet. They sure do love having a captive audience, much like the eateries at the airport.

I got back to WoWing last night, after about a week and a half off. Between the trip and my newfound addiction to Fallout 3, I'd let that slide a bit. I didn't finish the Lunar Festival achievements, and I don't know if I'll go for the Valentine ones. Midsummer, on the other hand, I'm going to be all over. I want that Flame Warden title. Also, I hit level 78 last night, so I snatched up all the rep gear I've earned so far in my quest to be heroic-ready as soon as possible.

I haven't played Fallout 3 since getting back, but I have been listening to Galaxy News Radio (or at least their playlist) in the car during my commute.

Finally, I finished reading Fellowship of the Ring during the trip, and I'm now 3 chapters into Two Towers. Looking back, I don't think I gave the book much of a chance in high school. I must have just skimmed it lightly, because there's so much that I was discovering for the first time (in print form, anyway) on this pass. Of course, now I want to go back and watch the extended cut of the films and relive the story a different way.
