I have to say that I am very dissatisfied with the present management of the unit. We got a new manager this year who had been running the stepdown unit for NICU. Now she runs Peds as well. But I find that in mangement as in so much else, i.e. funding, staffing, press etc. we are coming in second place. We've got a great unit. We have highly trained nursed and dedicated docs. What we don't have is consistency, high morale, or the equipment the patients deserve. I feel like the nurses are jumping ship and the mangement isn't doing anything to stop it. In fact, they're practically pushing us off the boat. The stepdown unit will be expanding for the second time in two years. We still don't have the new therometers that the rest of the hospital got 2 yrs ago. Yet we are one unit always in the black. What gives? ARggh. It is so frustrating. I love my patient group but soon it looks like I may have the choice to moving to the stepdown unit to get consistent hours or watch as my unit contracts with pt. satisfaction with it.
