Hey troops,
It looks like
Dan and I have something in common - maxed out credit cards! But at least he's got a new job lined up (good luck, man!).
This ended up being somewhat long (and with pictures!) so
I'm not sure if I've mentioned the whole "Podcast" venture I was working on, and how it totally screwed me over, so I'll sum up. I left Focus AV in May, maybe April, of this year because I was hired on as the sound editor / content manager / 'man of many hats', for this small local Podcasting business. It went well for a couple months, and then we stopped getting paid. We is myself, and Danielle, who is also currently screwed.
Eventually we left the company, but are STILL currently owed a decent chunk of change each.
All would have been well if it wasn't summer. I didn't exactly 'quit' from Focus - I was just unavailable. I could have gone back except that the AV industry completely dies in July-August. And it was the beginning of July at this point.
EI did NOT like me because I don't have a ROE from Focus because it's CONTRACT work.... and as a CONTRACTOR I do not get ROE's. They didn't like that. Also, the Podcast company is somewhat... not legit... so there's no way I could get an ROE from them.
Basically folks, for 2 months I haven't been working (much) and I deserve to have my credit card maxed out. Poor planning, as well as inadequate responses to situations. The worst part was borrowing money from my grandma, after my dad has basically 'taken her to the cleaners' since living back at home.

I really didn't mean for this to be a big money gripe. I don't want lots of money, I just want to live. And if I didn't allow myself to get so screwed over, I would be living happy. Instead, I'm living in fear of creditors, of Student Loan 'officers', of the checkout lady at the grocery store, and myself (from spending the little I do have on silly things like Timmy's honey cruellers... best donuts ever...)
I wish love could fill my stomach. But all it does lately is make my eyes water.

"And now for something completely different"
I was in the L-Word last week as an extra. It was a horrendously boring event. I got to hold a glass of 'beer' in a salsa club, and walk from one side of the dance floor to the other. 23 times. And then I got to sit at a table. Here's a breakdown of what I made:
$10/hr for 4 hours = $40
minus my agent's 30% cut = $28
minus the one-time fee for photos of $10 = $18
minus the $2.25 in transit it cost to get there...
Leaves me with...
$15.75
And the teriffic memory of the one-time lovely Pam Grier gyrating on the dance floor in a bloody awful dress.

Also, I was a zombie-extra for a movie called "Nest of Angels" currently being filmed in and around Vancouver. It's a wee-budgeted flick, so... I'm not sure if anybody will ever see it... But I'll keep my fingers crossed...
This is me:
This is also me (braaains...)
And this... is John.
Special thanks to John for coming out on such short notice! Leave Calgary, come to Vancouver, and be in a Zombie flick. More fun to come, I promise!
