FINAL INSANITY 3: WEDNESDAY PUDDING DAY

Jul 28, 2010 20:09

Every Wednesday at Aoyama was special. It was the day that the mysterious Cafeteria man announces a new challenge. Today, the prize was one wonderful bowl of highly coveted pudding that everyone wants. It was because everyone knows that the cafeteria man, Aiba Masaki was a genius in making legendary deserts. He was also chief informant of the student body - in short, if you want to know anything, ask Aiba.

Aiba had announced on the PA system that the pudding he prepared today was called “Lover’s Pudding” In short, if you share the pudding with your lady love, it will surely catch her heart.   The announcement was heard by all of the men in campus. The challengers were to meet in the cafeteria at noon. Everyone who wanted to join the challenge were to register at the boards before that time. At noon, Aiba will start asking questions, ranging from the stupidest to the hardest and the men would all have to answer it correctly to advance to the next round.

People watched as college men stared the board down deciding if they were man enough to take the challenge for their lady love.  Everyone watched to see who will take up the challenge.

The challenge fell into the ears of none other than Mr. Naito Daigo, the King of Aoyama University.  If this would help him catch the heart of the Queen, then so be it. He came down from his loft above the student cafeteria and approached the board quietly. Everyone watched as he wrote his name on the board and applauded. The first challenger has been cast.

Since he was the all time champion who had repeatedly won Aiba’s challenge for 201 times, Kamenashi Kazuya was exempted from the challenge. Not that he would want to join anyway, he was more interested in who would have the guts to do this.  Plus, his lady love took form of a Ninja Maiden in 2D named Torabushi.  So he didn’t bother,  Tora-chan would be perfect without the fattening pudding even if it tasted good.

He knew that it took a lot of courage to actually walk up and write your name on that board and he was not surprised that His king, Daigo had done so bravely.

“Sasuga! Just as expected, the Brave King Naito Daigo is going to battle it out to prove that he is worthy of the Queen’s heart,” he said with much pride in his voice.

He turned around and pointed to Maia who blinked widely at him.  He did his signature “Whish” pose and grinned at her before returning to his place above the crowd.

Maia had to laugh. How could you not love a guy like that? The problem is, that she kind of didn’t. She was amused by him. She liked him. She knew he was right for her, but she didn’t love him. What was wrong with her? Maybe it was all the fault of someone else - Nishikido Ryo, the object of her affections which she believed never would like her.

However she was wrong. Sometimes it took some time before things will start to unfurl and sometimes, you need to be taken by surprise to realize it.  The uproar that Daigo caused Nishikido Ryo to look up and see that his opponent has placed his name under the first bracket. The show that the boy had put on rubbed him wrong and something in him stirred, he didn’t want Daigo to win this challenge. His body moved against his sane mind and he stood up to walk swiftly across the room to place his name in the bracket beside Daigo’s name much to the crowd’s surprise.

A very shocked Kamenashi Kazuya who was announcing the challengers had spoken melodramatically “A challenger! How dare this pauper challenge the King Daigo of Aoyama! Will he be a dark horse? What caused him to challenge the king?”

Once he heard that, he realized that he was bold enough and it surprised even himself. He was proud and at the same time quite afraid of what he was going to do afterward.  After the applause, he meekly went back to his table and sat down but not before meeting the eyes of his lady love, Maia Namikaze who gave him a small smile of encouragement. Then he brightened up.

Yes, he thought, This is for you. Maybe I could beat him. Maybe, there is a way.I could be smarter than that rich boy anyway. Who knows? Maybe its this time..

Maia could not help but wonder in amazement why Ryo stood up to challenge Daigo, but admitted that she was flattered that her crush would do that for her. Wait, she shouldn’t jump to conclusions right? She shouldn’t assume that Ryo did it for her. Who knows? Ryo might like someone else. Who knows? He might have just done it for fun.

She settled on writing the rest of her notes down as she thought about the endless possibilities of the challenge. On one hand, there was the devastatingly handsome and debonair King of Aoyama Daigo Naito who was head over heels in love with her, on the other, there was the one she was head over heels in love with, the pauper in the form of Nishikido Ryo. What if Ryo wins the challenge? What if it was meant really for her? What would she do? How could she hurt Daigo who had given her so much love?

She was going insane with the questions inside her when she heard another announcement come on the PA system.

“The second bracket has just been filled. For the second bracket,  Capt. Bakanishi- I mean, Akanishi Jin of the Blue Lightnings Soccer team will challenge Kusano-wait, is that boy even a student here? Due to his un enrolled state in our university. The Rules of the game says that in Rule number 105. Line 6. That non students shall not be allowed to play the game. Kusano Hironori will not play in this challenge.”

Kusano Hironori and Jin Akanishi stood at the board glaring at each other. When Kusano was announced as defaulted, Jin almost whooped in Joy. He had practically won by default. But what he didn’t know was that there was a challenger waiting for him.

From high above the crowd, in the VIP loft, a smooth voice called out. “It’s no fun if there is no challenger. I would like to take up the challenge, Capt. Jinius. And mind you, I won’t go easy on you.”

Jin looked up as Ueda Tatsuya sailed down the steps to write his name in fluid calligraphy beside Jin’s name. “I challenge you to a Duel, Jin.”

Jin was puzzled but since he loved challenges, he smiled. “You’re on Tatsuya.”

“Winner takes all,” Tatsuya said coolly.

“Indeed,” Jin nodded and they shook on it.

Kamenashi didn’t miss a moment of this and started to speak. “In lieu of the disqualified, Kusano Hironori, Mr. Ueda Tatsuya will take his place and challenge Akanishi Jin.”

The crowd erupted in applause. Another good match! It seems that today’s challenge would be a good one.

Outside, in the courtyard, Yabu Kouta was cornered. Somehow, he was tricked and blackmailed by some of his soccer buddies to enter the Cafeteria and write his name on the board. He entered the cafeteria followed by his betrayers and they watched him walk towards the board. He was shaking as he wrote his name on the third bracket’s spot and wondered who would challenge him.  He was practically petrified, knowing that if he loses, he doesn’t only lose face, but also knew that he would face a batsu game of drinking a bitter bitter tea in front of Idda Namikaze. He didn’t want that to happen. It was a matter of pride now.

Once he wrote his name,  Kamenashi spoke. “A poor pressured soul has written his name, who shalt challenge him? Yabu Kouta, could you do it? For whom? Who would you offer this precious pudding to?”

From his crowd of bullies, his challenger came up simply and wrote his name.

Idda Namikaze almost squealed in surprise. Ayukawa Taiyou had come up and challenged Yabu Kouta. What was this? Why was there a challenge between her so-called sunshine versus her childhood love? What’s going on in the world?

“And a silent challenger appears,” Kame announced. “The third bracket will be Yabu Kouta and Ayukawa Taiyou. Who will win this mystery round?”

From the corner of his eye, Ayukawa Taiyou watched as Idda looked at them wide-eyed. Her surprise, and shock was so cute. If he did win the challenge, he was sure that he was going to confess. That would be his ultimate sign.

However, his mood was broken when he heard a yell from within the cafeteria. It was someone that he had dreaded.

“YAY! OH MAI KYODAI!! AYU READY?!?!”

It was his brother, Taguchi Junnosuke who was charging towards him to give him a big brotherly hug. He tried to move away through the crowd but he was not fast enough and his brother caught him. “Let’s win this pudding  for your footing!”

“Get. Off. Me.” Ayukawa squirmed under his brother’s strong arms. This was not only humiliating, it was torment. Oh. Earth open up and please swallow me whole now.

While the brothers were bickering, the final challenger stared up at the board and thoughtfully wrote his name. Yamashita Tomohisa. He had heard from a little birdie that Keiko, the apple of his eye, loved pudding and he would like very much to give it to her.

Kame was shocked as Yamashita wrote his name. “Indeed, today will go down in Aoyama History as the battle of the greats. Our president, Yamashita tomohisa had written his name for the final bracket.”

WHAT?! This was the collective cry of all four Namikaze sisters who were seated in one table. They stood up and found that it was true. Yamashita looked out at the crowd and smiled.  Now, who is that pudding for?

“NO YOU ARENT!!!” Ikuta Toma charged his way through the crowd and ran towards the board. When he heard over the PA that Pi had written his name on the board he knew that it was for Keiko. There was no way in heaven or hell that he would allow them to get closer than they already are so he had to take care of things his way. He was challenging the love of his life.

From Pi’s point of view, Toma was a jealous rival on a mission as Toma wrote his name hastily beside his. There was only a minute to spare before time was up.

“So, you will challenge me?” Pi had his eyes on Toma’s. He was determined not to lose even to his friend.

Toma had to gulp. His nearness made him dizzy. Why was he so cute? “Yes.” He managed to say. All for love, all for the sake of love. A part of him said “I AM NOT GAY! I JUST IDOLIZE HIM! While another wanted to hug Pi.

“So be it,” Pi nodded. Keiko was a lovely girl It was no wonder that Ikuta loved her as well. “Let’s make it a fair fight.” He offered his hand.

Toma shook it. “Fair and square.”

“May the best man win,” Pi nodded.

That final handshake sealed the deal and soon the clock struck twelve. The challengers soon were all lined up in front of the mysterious pattiseur who emerged from the depths of the kitchen with a smug smile on his face.
