The other present I wanted was goldfish...I really need a pet of some kind, and goldfish are easiest. I'd like two, a boy and a girl...I'd name them Flotsam and Jetsam.
There are college regulations against keeping pets though, I dunno if goldfish are covered...when Lord Byron was at Cambridge he, irritated by the rules forbidding students from keeping cats, dogs etc, had a tame bear imported at great expense and kept it in his rooms (bears not being mentioned in the regulations).
When the college authorities asked him what he meant to do with it, Byron replied 'Perhaps he shoulde sit for a felloweship, haw haw.'
(I'm paraphrasing, but it was something like that).
