We're unlikely to actually DO that, you know. On the other hand, I'll give you two tricks. Well, one trick and one me. Just asking is enough for me. Hell, I'll even apologize a tiny bit. ^_^ At least for the not quite positive feeling things in your email. ... For back and forth talking 'No apology!' though. I'll add that it was a little bit of a conversation with you... at least that's how I view things like this. That's why the comments are set up this way, if you don't want people to be able to see/respond to other peoples comments in your journal there's an option in your edit/userinfo area to automatically screen all comments by everybody. That'll stop that.
Hey, it turned back into two tricks then. 1) Auto screening. You can have it auto screen everybody, as I meantioned above, and thereby stop anyone from cross-sommenting. OR you can simply auto screen all non-friends, thereby stopping people you don't know/haven't approved of from commenting.
2) Part from one... when I see comments on my journal that rub me wrong, or seem to be fighty, or whatever, I immediantly screen them. (Never delete them though. It's always good to be able to go back and see things.) And if they bother me enough there's an option to ban people by screenname from ever commenting on anything on your page. I'd definitely recommend you do the autoscreen non-friends thing, especially if you're feeling vulnerable, or don't like strangers commenting, or maybe have recieved one or two comments you didn't like and want to stop others before they start. After all, if you're the only one who can see, it's almost like the comment never
I thought it might do that... Rewind for position, and continue:

So then, two tools. Or three. Asking, sure, then if that doesn't work or you feel the need for stronger measures, screening or banning.
And, um... back to the apology thing. I'm sorry for expressing an opinion about your viewpoint that made you actually feel bad, if it did so... and I'm sorry if I seemed to be picking a fight with another on your page. That is a bit rude. I wouldn't have at all if I had viewed it entirely that way... What I said was equally for you as for him. And only a little negative for you, I thought. Along with some things for you to think about if you wished.
But...I don't screen comments, regardless of anything. Every once in awhile I'll delete one, but never screen them. Seems to much like censorship in a way...that doesn't have to make sense to you, it does to me.
Anyway...yeah, I don't care about petition, it just seemed like an "interesting idea" so I posted it because I'm all about "features" even if they aren't the coolest things in the world....and I'm a power freak, if I can REJECT someone from having their name on my userinfo then that's cool in my opinion...kinda like telling guys "No." and then five minutes later "No." again and so on....
I'm not autoscreening anyone. I do trace IP addresses but only because for example Person A is my 'friend' and then figures out "Hey, she's a real bitch." so they start commenting honest feelings in anonymous comments while being 'buddy-buddy' under their username. I like to printscreen things like this and send it to them to see what they say in response...I'm usually hoping for a "Oh..I didn't write that" sort of thing so that I can be like "Listen dumb bitch, I'm intelligent, I know you did. The IP addresses could have been DIFFERENT and I would know it was you." and then usually some sort of mind fucking as well....
Don't agree with this statement "After all, if you're the only one who can see, it's almost like the comment never happened. " That's...well...not true. Because the comment regardless of the nature DID happen....that's like saying...I don't know, lost my train of thought.
And don't apoligize...nothing to be sorry for....you didn't make me feel bad in any way, I'm just sick, bleeding from the crotch, and easily annoyed. And pick fights all you want, but do it somewhere else. I don't like being a witness. Kinda like "Yeah, you can beat the shit out of that boy but I know nothing about it okay Sheilah?" and then I say "Okay" and go about my merry way.
Anyway...I don't know, I didn't really even read what you guys were talking about, I read enough to know that there was a difference of opinion though and to realize it could end up as tons and tons of comments that I've got to go through in my e-mail. A stich in time saves nine? Usually not true, but whatever...just dodging the bullet before the gun's pulled out I guess....
Am I making sense? I think I'm doing pretty good considering the amount of drugs in my body right now, but then again I can be complete fucked up(and not in the 'dude i just smoked a bowl!!!1111' way) and I can still type away....
I agree that people don't have to agree to things... but I find it interesting that you'd see screening as censorship, while in my opinion it's deleting that would be cencorship.
You can either reject everyone or noone, using the hide friends of list... You couldn't stop them from being friends because that aspect has nothing to do with you, it only shows who's reading your journal. ANYhow, I hear rumors that they're changing things so that they don't say "friend of" anymore. Also, unless I'm misinterpreting you, you're stating here not that you want to be able to have someone not be able to put you on the friends list, which is what the petition language suggests, but that you're wanting to be able to filter out certain names so that those individual names aren't acknowledged. I doubt that the people who have a problem with the first would have a problem with the second. The second is about you, whereas the second is about having power over others.
As for "if only you can see it, it's like it never happened", yes, you saw it... but it takes the power out of the comment if noone notices it. And if you're the only one who can see it, you can choose not to acknowledge it, and noone else sees it, thereby taking power away from the person who wrote it. It's a psychology thing.
Interesting that you interpreted it as a difference of opinion between us, I really did write it as a comment for you, but a less direct one. No need for me to have made that comment to HIM. He wrote about the issue on his own journal. If I had a difference of opinion with him I'd've written it there.
Yea, ok.
