Assuming that it was possible, could someone(a country) go to the moon and claim it as their own?

No.
There was a treaty signed in the 1960's declaring the Moon to be a resourse for all of Earth, and no one nation may own it.
Even though not EVERY country signed the treaty, no country would honor the claim by any country that tried to claim the moon.
HOWEVER...
As history has shown time and again, if someone (anyone) got to the Moon, claimed it, and had the force of arms needed to back up their claim, well... that would be another story.

Pluto's moon Charon is almost as large as Pluto itself!
