Giving In, Dwight/Angela, chair, PGregalishFebruary 19 2008, 19:53:49 UTC
Angela does not feel that an office should discriminate against employees on the basis of height. Nor for any other reason, but height in particular. If she were Michael, she would accuse them of being 'heightist.' But she's not Michael. Therefore, she's well aware there is no such form of bigotry, however much the layout of the office seems to contradict that thought.
Sometimes she's forced to wonder if it's Kevin. It would be just like him to derive some perverted sense of glee watching her have to grab a chair every time she's in need of a file.
Just like now. She wheels her desk chair over to the filing cabinet, barely throwing a cursory glance at Dwight as he comes over to talk to Oscar about the expense reports. Carefully, she braces herself and steps up onto the seat of the chair, able to see over the top of the filing cabinet.
Why they need to review the expense reports from 2004 and 2005 she does not know. Michael had sprung this on them this morning. She does not approve of his haphazard management style. It's simply unacceptable for someone in a position of authority to be so disorganized.
She pauses, in the midst of pulling a file from the shelf, when she hears Dwight's voice again, asking inane questions about the expense reports. Questions that she knows he knows the answer to. He's just prolonging his visit. He's been doing this often in the hopes that she'll converse with him. He's sorely mistaken if he thinks today will be the day.
Angela Martin is not one to give in during times of conflict. It didn't happen with her sister and it is most certainly not going to happen with Dwight. Not while Sprinkles is still dead. She pretends to look through the file for so long, Dwight is forced to say goodbye before he starts to really look foolish lingering for no reason.
It's then that she turns to get down. But she miscalculates how quickly the chair spins with her. She trips... falls.
And Dwight spins instinctively to catch her before she can hit the floor. She's nestled against him and her treacherous mind forces her to recall all the other times she'd been nestled against him, in much more pleasant ways.
Her world is righted again when she finds her footing, and her hands brace themselves against Dwight's midsection while she regains her balance. His hands are on her arms, and she thinks maybe she hallucinates the feel of them rubbing her shoulders gently, just twice.
She peeks up at him as she backs away, and mutters a crisp, "Thank you, Dwight," before hurrying back to her desk with her chair and her file.
It isn't until she has sat down and busied herself with her work that she hears him walk by, murmuring, "You're welcome, Angela."

YOU'RE SO GOOD AT THIS, OMG. YOU'RE SO GOOD AT THIS. Like you really get them and everything. I am so excited that you're writing for them because Dwangela fic is rare, for a start, and because it's SO. GOOD. It's in character and it's cute and warm and funny and sjdfsjhdf!!!
And the premise of this is just adorable and I can really see it. And it's little, real moments like this that I love in a ship ♥ ♥ ♥

I fail for not finding these comment replies sooner. LJ HATES ME THIS WEEK.
SO SO SO GLAD YOU LIKE THESE, GEMMA. Seriously. You are the #1 Dwangela fan on my f-list, so I felt I really had to do them justice. For you, if no one else. :D
The little moments always get me with a ship, too, despite how lovely the big moments can be :)
HAHAHA I MUST GRAVITATE NATURALLY TOWARD YOUR PROMPTS.

Oh, this one was absolutely adorable! It was so perfectly Angela, and I especially love how Dwight got to be her hero, and she seriously cannot resist him when he's being heroic. This was perfect, loved it!

And suddenly, giving in doesn't seem so awful.

I have SUCH a thing for the whole girl-falls-and-guy-catches-her thing in a ship. So fairytale'esque :D
