asoiaf- A Song of Ice and Fire, a series of fantasy books. One of things I like best about them is that each book has several viewpoint characters. Some of the viewpoint characters are from distant factions- there's one of them in each important place, I think.
george r.r. martin- The author of the above series.
westeros- The continent the story of ASoIaF revolves around.
suzumiya haruhi no yuuutsu- In English, The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi.
the tawny man- A fantasy trilogy by Robin Hobb. It is the sequel to the Farseer trilogy, which is about a bastard prince raised as assassin. These books have given me one of my favorite fictional characters ever (and it's not the protagonist).
liveship traders- Also by Robin Hobb, Liveship Traders is yet another trilogy that chronologically takes place between the Farseer trilogy and Tawny Man. It's set in the same world, but in a different country and has an entirely different set of characters, so it's a stand-alone trilogy. However, all three trilogies make a bit more sense if read in chronological order. (Geez, a trilogy of trilogies!)
dragaera- Yet more fantasy books. XD Steven Brust's Vlad Taltos series is set in the world of Dragaera, in the Draegaran Empire. Dragaerans are a long lived people, and humans are second class citezans. The main character is a mobster and assassin (yes, another assassin...but a very, very different character! XD). The series has lots of Spiffy Stuff. There are also the Khaavren Romances, which are written as if the author is a Draegaran writing historical fiction in the style of The Three Musketeers.
