Heroism.

More than one friend of mine is currently or has recently been involved in getting law enforcement help with abusive men. The abuses vary, and some of the details I know are being kept private, but I wanted to take a moment to sign their praises, albeit anonymously.

Men abuse women every day. Assault, stalking, being a jerk, whatever. This sucks. The legal system has a reputation to be unpleasant and bureaucratic and ineffectual. That's very daunting. When people are abused, they question themselves, their right to redress, and that just adds another barrier.

Lots of people choose not to seek legal assistance, for both good and bad reasons, and I'm not posting this to judge or second guess them.

I just wanted to sing the praises of the women I know that are taking that leap. (Even if I don't know that they're doing it, because there are plenty of reasons to be discreet about that.) It's not easy, even in the best case scenario, and the results aren't always the best we might hope for. But it does make a difference. It makes the world a better place for everyone, and I appreciate it, and I know other people do, too.

Thank you.
