Donna wasn't sure what had pulled her apart from the Doctor - she had no idea if he was unharmed or even if he was still alive. He had promised, in those last few seconds before they were separated that he would find her, and all she could do was trust in him. He'd never let her down yet ( Read more... )

"It's... yeah, it's psychic paper. Projects thoughts or sommat. Not entirely sure how it works, just know it's useful." She flashed it again. This time she was apparently a doctor at the local hospital. Every trade has their own tools, right?

"Probably illegal - but very handy."

"Damn, you don't have another one of those do you?" Because Dean might be salivating at the thought of how useful that would be both as a hunter and to get laid.

"What we do is in the grey areas. Not like we can go up to cops and say hey you know that dead body? Vampire or alien attack. This cuts through the bullshit and lets us help people, that's all that counts."

"Easy, Tiger. Only got the one. But if I manage to find the Doctor again I'll see if he can hook you up with a sheet." Or maybe she could ask Jack if Torchwood has any. She'd have to look into it.

"I get it. Helping people is important. It's what we do, right? Save people." She shot him a smile and headed out to the car park. There was only one car. "Yours, I hope?"

Dean lovingly ran his hand over the hood of the Impala. "Yeah, this baby's mine." He opened the door and slid in the passenger seat, waiting for Donna to get inside, too.

"Best car out there." And he'd rebuilt her at least twice, probably more.

"Boys and their toys..." Donna had seen the Doctor run his hand over the TARDIS that same way plenty of times. She smiled and followed him over, slipping inside.

"She's nice. A classic. Chevy, right?" Her car knowledge was limited. It was never one of her big interests.

"Good eye." Dean nodded as he turned the Impala on, CCR blasting from the radio. Perfect. "It's an Impala, from the 60s." He put it in reverse and drove the short trip to the diner by the library.

"Fried food. Gift of the gods."

Donna spotted an ATM just down the road from the diner. Perfect! Money. Money was needed. "I'll be right in. Just have to go do something very illegal and alien first." Hey, it was no more illegal than credit card scams...

That piqued Dean's interest right up but he didn't follow her. "See ya inside." But he did get a table right by the window so that he could watch what she was doing.

Donna looked around the check there was no one nearby - she wouldn't be much use to anyone if she got arrested. She leaned in close to the machine and then reached into her pocket for her sonic screwdriver - it had taken her forever to convince the Doctor she was responsible enough to have one of her own. It was smaller than the Doctor's and less advanced, and had a purple light instead of blue - but it was still incredibly good at getting money out of an ATM without a card. Current economic climate? Totally not her fault...

She soniced the machine and a few seconds later pocketed the sonic screwdriver and a large wad of cash. She headed to the diner, stepped inside and quickly found Dean.

Dean sat at the window watching Donna. At first he couldn't see what she was doing at the ATM, she didn't really seem to be doing anything that looked illegal to him and then he saw. Though not so much knew what she was doing. At first, he thought she was going to literally break into it with the tool but all she did was point it. And he'd only caught that because he was good at what he did and he paid attention to things.

When the ATM spit out money, he smirked and assumed that was another bit of alien technology that he wished he had. Seriously the future was great when you had lying sheets of paper and glowing pencil looking thing to make money spit out of ATMs.

When she joined him, he arched an eyebrow and used his chin to indicate where she'd been. There might have also been a hint of a smile on his lips.

Donna shot him her best innocent smile and a shrug of her shoulders. "What? I need to buy supplies. Still, consider breakfast on me." Besides, she still owed him big time for saving her from becoming ghost chow.

She picked up the menu and glanced over it, trying to find something that wouldn't be swimming in grease. She settled on pancakes and coffee.

Dean glanced down at the menu and didn't even notice the grease or fat content. That was what made diner food the best. He settled on sausage, eggs, and pancakes with a side of bacon.

"So, if we're really lucky, she'll be buried here and we won't have to travel out of the county to find her."

The conversation could be normal, just two people looking for a grave of someone they knew. Dean had a lot of years experience choosing words carefully.

Beer, grease and cars. Typical bloke. Even if he does have a less than typical job. As soon as the food arrived, Donna took a long sip of her coffee. Caffeine! Just what she needed!

"I dunno about here, but back home the churches have like registers or plans of all the graves. Sommat like that would help us find it."

"Some cemeteries have that, too, but not all. It helps that we know they weren't cremated, it'll narrow down the search." Unless it was like the ghost in New York who was cremated by the doll with her hair was still around. Creepy as shit.

"I bet you woo all the girls with a date at the cemetery, right?" Donna laughed. It was a little surreal she's known the guy what... a few hours? And she was already planning on hunting down corpses with him.

Dean chuckled, "you'd be surprised at how few like that." Not that he wasn't above taking a chick to a cemetery for a good ghost story and to get laid. Just not on a hunt.
