Is actually pretty cool. I think I'm slowly getting past my inherent resistance to journaling type activities, and it's nice being in glancey-contact with random strangers who aren't total assholes.
Anyway, I've recently been reading a lot of sex and feminism blogs, one of which happened to be the inimitable and fascinating Pervocracy by Holly Last-name-not-given. It's pretty amusing and informative, but then in my scrolling and scanning I noticed a post signaling the end of the Twisty-Faster-Is-Fucking-Insane series. I recognized that name, oh yes I did. Twisty Faster is the pseudonym of the woman who runs I Blame the Patriarchy, a blog that I've previously spent hours archive bingeing on. So I read it. Story of my life, anyway (anywayanywayanyway it's like a speech tic but for typing,) there was a post mocking the IBTP peeps for their reaction to Obama hugging Sonia Sotomayer after he appointed her. I had never gotten this far back into the archives. What. The. Fuck.
There were a few actually that seems okay comments at the top of the scroll, and then.
The only way for me to describe it is bewilderingly vicious. These people seemed to genuinely think Obama was sexually harassing/physically assaulting Sotomayer because he dared to hug her. They assumed it was nonconsensual for no reason I can discern. One woman said "Right the fuck on!I thought the SAME thing when I saw that crazy many reaching out and lingering. If that man ever tried to touch me I’d make sure I pissed all over myself before hand. And I’d hold him tight and linger. I’d actually like to change a messy tampon and shake his hand right after. No washing."
The post picture was of Obama and Sotomayer standing close together and smiling.
Was hugging not okay in 2009? Was that a thing that I missed?
