I just finished reading DH last night, so can now finally go back and read all the spoiler posts on my flist.
I agree with you about the epilogue and the finale. I had one moment of hope that JKR was going to shock everyone by actually killing off both Harry and Voldemort ... then the next page started that awful "King's Cross" chapter, and that was the end of that. Still, what else could you expect? She's never been writing for adults, and kids want happy endings.
You know that sentence that you added to the epilogue, that I quoted at the start of this comment? I have to ask if you read Elizabeth George, because if you don't, you should. And if you do read her, you'll know exactly what your Ginny-drops-dead bit made me think of. Because, yes, that really is how the world works.
