[ If nothing else, technology was not as mystical and magical to him as it was with a lot of the older European nations. This strange little device was something he was able to figure out to the point he could turn it on and use it, though what struck him about it is that it definitely wasn't a mobile. ]

[ Regardless, the screen flickers on and any ( Read more... )

[The video turns on to show a small dark-haired woman in plain turn-of-the-century clothing. She frowns severely at him.]

Not by choice, I assure you. I have lived in tombs that were commodious than what passes for lodgings in this city.

[ First thought: Wow that's a blast from the past. Second thought: Oh cool, she's one of mine. ]

So I see. I'll assume that some sort of destruction has befallen this area, either by war or by crime. So then, do you know the way out? I do have meetings I have to be attending to and I really can't stay long.

I have been repeatedly assured that there is none. Or at least not one that has been discovered yet. Given a choice, I doubt anyone would remain in this place.

I remember a time when I was convinced by every medical professional that letting out blood was a plausible cure for most diseases. That turned out to be false, as will the idea of there being no escape to this awful town, or place or wherever I am.

Perhaps no one has tried hard enough yet?

In my opinion, all of the efforts towards such a thing have been hopelessly disorganized and distracted. But what can you expect from a group of men?

A lot, actually, as men have accomplished many things in groups before. I think the obvious solution is to find a good lot of English citizens and attempt an escape from wherever this is. That would be a successful attempt, I assure you.

[ lol nah it wouldn't. But let him think that. ]

Men can be occasionally useful in a crisis, I will grant you. The trick is convincing them that things have come to such a state.

I am, of course, a loyal servant of the British Empire. But you will find very few of us about this place. In my opinion the most practical way of accomplishing anything would be to speak with the villains responsible.

They can be useful more times than that. It depends on the type of man, really.

Are you? [ Lips crease into a smile as he looks up, remembering, then flits his eyes back to the screen. Oh he liiiiiiikes this. ] A shame to hear it, but I am all too glad to run into more of my citizens. Yes, that would be a good plan, wouldn't it? [ He reaches up to stroke his thumb over his chin. ]

Uehm. Well. Who exactly is responsible for all of this? What country I mean? [ He's been kidnapped, automatic assumption is: Which one of my enemies is having a bad day? ]

A group of men calling themselves the scientists. Of no country that I am familiar with. We know very little of them. And the problem with an unknown enemy is that is very difficult to determine their location.

Could be French. [ He is clinging to that belief ok. ] Anyway, the most important thing to do right now is to uncover more information about these people, and then to use this information to find their whereabouts.

[ A nod towards the screen. ] I suppose I'll start in this venture by introducing myself: My name is Arthur Kirkland, or, if you'd prefer, England. I have little time for these people interfering with my life, I have a country to run and people to see to.

In my experience, the French are not nearly organized enough to do this.

I have met you before, although it seems you suffer from a poor memory. Seeing as you do not recognize me, I suppose I must reintroduce myself. I am Amelia Peabody Emerson. And you are not the only one here with duties waiting at home. My dear husband, the greatest Egyptologist in this or any other age, is completely hopeless at domestic affairs. I shouldn't be surprised if he has ruined all of his shirts by now.

T'is true, that it is. [ A hand reaches up to lightly hold his head, a little stunned by what she's telling him. ] I, I don't, I never suffered memory...

Anyway, I suppose it's a pleasure to meet you once more, Amelia, I'm dearly sorry for forgetting a face, it's usually beyond me to do so. Perhaps I was not myself. [ You don't even know, England. ] So I see. [ A wry smile. ] That is likewise how I feel about my current leader. Can't go five minutes without him doing something wrong. Finding a way home is a must.
