TAMUFC's yearly tournament was this weekend. Unlike last year (well, February), where I was primarily responsible for just about everything getting the tournament started, I was instructed that I should tell our new tournament rep officer what to do. I sent her a detailed email and got her pointed in the right direction. It was quite nice to not have to go through the process of tracking down referees and equipment and such this time. She did a good job considering. Our tournament happened to be scheduled on top of the Albuquerque NAC tournament. Back when were reserving this date, it was one of very few that we could use, and the NAC schedule was not available.
Anyway, as a result, we found it nearly impossible to find referees. In fact, we only had two actually show up on each day. Even though our tournament is not particularly large, two refs is not enough. Despite this, I think we managed to put on a pretty good tournament. Personally, I didn't fence very well this weekend. I've been missing lots of practice, and more importantly, my lessons with the coach. Stack on top of that not getting enough sleep and having to try to help run the tournament at the same time as I was fencing, and you've got a Tom that is not fencing his best at all. I ended up 12th of 25. For the team event today I fenced a few good bouts, but overall not very well. Fortunately, the other two members were fencing well so I came home with another cool flask trophy.
