At 05:47:39 this morning the drive that had caused me to have to reinstall Windows four times finally died.
"The device 'IC35L080AVVA07-0' (IDE\DiskIC35L080AVVA07-0________________________VA4OA50K\5&381b986f&0&0.0.0) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal."
More adventures in hardware land. I unplugged the bad drive and reset the jumper on the old drive in the other slot, expecting to be able to reboot immediately.
Not so.
I had forgotten that this drive was so old that it has separate settings for "master" and "single". Sigh, it took me most of an hour to figure this out, meanwhile thinking that the bad drive might have somehow trashed my IDE port.
