Walter smoothed his still-damp hair and matched Vlad's smirk with one of his own. It's possible that an outside observer might see just where Walter had learned that smirk, looking between the two men.
Walter had, on occasion, considered wearing his hair short again. The pleasure Vlad took in seeing it in just that still-damp state was one of the many reasons for the vampire's objecting to such a cut.
Vlad closed his eyes and tilted his chin to lean into the kiss, but otherwise kept still. He took a deep breath, savoring the scent of Walter's clean skin and damp hair and the warm press of his lips against Vlad's own cool ones.
Vlad watched Walter with a small trickle of sorrow mixed into the pleasure he took in the sight.
He'd lived this day before, after all. Fifty years ago and hundreds of miles away. And, frankly, part of him was disinclined to celebrate the fact that another year of Walter's life had passed.
"Still, it is your birthday breakfast. You should enjoy it as much as you can. I think there's some of that wine icecream of yours left over in the freezer. I had planned to use it for something else, later on, but..."
"What had you planned to use it for?" Walter took a bite of eggs before he favored Vlad with a good-natured leer. "Because I'd hate to miss something good."
Following the process of elimination, Walter padded out into the garden and stopped to take in the feast laid out there. And the food.
Smiling, he came closer, noting there were no omelets in the spread.
"Good morning."

So what else could one expect, really?
"Morning. Sleep well?"
Vlad's smirk suggested he already knew the answer to that last question.

"Sleep is for the weak."

"Happy birthday, Angel."

Walter came nearer and bent down to press an almost chaste kiss to Vlad's lips.
"Thank you."

Ah well.
"Your eggs are getting cold."

He sat down at the repast laid out for him and began to load his plate. "I do wish I could share this with you."

"Why is that?" he asked, genuinely curious, as he poured Walter a cup of tea.

Vlad plucked a leaf from a nearby plant and twirled it between his fingertips.
"Does that bother you? That you and I can't sit down and share a meal?"
